How many other lower division clubs are playing in a 140 year old ground built on a slag heap on the side of a valley, with a huge retaining wall stopping it from sliding down the hill and also making it very difficult to drain excess water away?

The pitch wasn’t an issue for all those decades in which Football League matches were routinely played on mud tips and frozen wastes marked out with orange lines. But standards have changed massively. Player safety is prioritised and no one plays in the kinds of conditions that were routine in the 70s and 80s.

Yes, there are major issues with the ownership and running of our club. Only a fool would deny that. But sorting out the VP pitch so that today’s conditions wouldn’t cause postponement would cost many millions of pounds that no sensible owner of a tier 4 club would commit to unless they have more money than sense. It’s always going to be a sticking plaster job unless and until we get into the Championship with a seriously minted owner.

Many folk going on about the reasons for not playing etc ............. i could not have cared if it was a perfect day i would still have been happy if it was called off and sadly thats what these twats have done for me.

An afternoon of hoping Cook may score a goal an afternoon of dull as dishwater football and a post match interview from GA trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

 

Has anybody actually seen any photos of the pitch taken after the pitch inspection.

 

Would certainly have been interesting to see some wouldn’t it. But conveniently not seen anything

 

You seem to have a theory the club didn't want to play yesterday not sure either way on that one it does seem strange tho that we were only 1 of 4 that was postponed
Maybe other clubs took precautions after all it was well publicised that we were to have adverse weather maybe they were better prepared who knows it wasn't only BD8 affected
Pretty sure you won't see any pictures of the pitch we are only here to believe what we are told and not to question
Granted each individual ground has it degree of vulnerability but even Carlisle saw play, you would have thought they would have been first on the postponed list, wouldn't have attended yesterday regardless of the weather but feel it wouldn't have been a pleasant experience

 

Your right,I don't think the club made any attempt to get the match on yesterday,but what do I know,I'm only a fan.

Premiership winners and modern pitch facilities
Surely no excuses for such a big club

 

The postponement gives us time to get players back and rest those who needed it. It's not ideal missing out on a home Saturday game, but I think we needed to take time out.

 

3 games were postponed in the National League North plus 1 abandoned.

Even if we ignore the geographical differences (with teams as far south as Kings Lynn for example) which will mean different weather conditions you can't ignore that a key difference and a reason why these games were on is that lots of them have 3G pitches, 5 of the 8 games that finished yesterday had 3G pitches. The games that had a grass pitch were Kings Lynn, Peterborough Sports and South Shields so all quite a way from us.

In 2016 Man City had a Champions League match postponed due to a waterlogged pitch yet 8 miles down the road Hyde played their match as they have a 3G pitch, that shows how much better they are. Criticism is fine but it's got to be fair and to criticise the club because teams with a 3G pitch got their game on is massively unfair as you are comparing apples and pears.

 

Great idea, a honour reserved for…………. Mods advise the I do the same , we have all waited long enough for your answer , sadly it would tear up one’s agenda leaving one looking rather paranoid and that’s why you won’t . . Sussed a long time ago pal .

Not seen any but it’s not only the playing surface OGF. It would be a shame if the pitch was perfectly playable , I think we all agree on that one.
