In fairness, GA said that Byrne was our best CB in pre-season and he was superb when he came on today.

Kelly, certainly is our worst CB - but still a decent L1 one.

 

Blackpool reminded me of us when we got relegated in 2018/19.

Look a million dollars when there's no pressure.

Look terrible when going a game behind.

We were spectacularly ordinary and yet we could still be playing and they'd never have scored.

 

I agree it wasn't a classic but a few seasons ago today's game would have ended in a last gasp equaliser and felt like a loss.
We've certainly improved in our ability to see a game out in the dieing moments of a game.
Young Metcalfe optimized the above with a sublime twist and turn keeping the ball under control for as long as possible down by the tunnel corner flag.
It was a hard fought victory but in my opinion a well deserved three points after our midweek showing which must have taken its toll fatigue wise.

 

The constant hyper criticism of Leigh, who by the way was terrible today, is getting tiresome.

Lest we forget, he's been one of the better players in all our wins - for instance how he didn't get MoM against Wimbledon defies logic. No worse than anyone against Donny - but of course he gets the abuse. We're all over the place in midfield against Huddersfield for the first 15 minutes - he comes on and they hardly got a look in afterwards.

And without him and that second half performance against Fleetwood - we'd be lining up for an away trip at Oldham.

Seriously. Let's be as fair minded as we are with Pointon, Pattinson and Sarcevic when they have indifferent games when judging Leigh.

 

Never thought we looked like conceding once we scored. Blackpool looked like us in 2018/19 and we know how that ended.

Half the team was average at best - but we still won. As GA said, our best win.

 

The T& A said it was TL being angry with his OWN performance , not the subbing , GA wasn’t pleased he kicked the bottle , but pleased he was angry at his performance . Storm in a tea cup Olly .

 

So have we , We all said Oct , so end of Sept wasn’t a bad guess?

Just to be clear, I rate him. I just think he let's himself down by being too casual on thr ball and how he uses it. He is a presence and works well with Power to give the front 3 a platform.

 

I wondered whether that would be brought up. Not spectacular but there's something about his touch and balance that is indicative of some special player.

 

This time last season we were probably all thinking "FFS we're already 12 points behind the leaders"

I just want to add that Blackpool playing tactics from 1999 helped us today as we gave them a lot of space in the first half and a decent team could have punished us. Their ‘442, get the ball out wide, hit diagonal balls up top and hope to win the second ball’ is probably what’s holding them back

Certainly not our best performance today but I agree with GA along with possibly Wimbledon this was one of our best results over the years these are the type of games that have been our downfall lower league battles.

 

I really like him and he has plenty of promise.

 

Lets not be hasty, Kelly is nowhere near a decent league 1 centre back. That title is for players like Matthew Pennington.
