Fordy im just as unhappy with the way things are going as you are, im just saying that’s just the way things have panned out. the management team have been given the brief to keep us up, why they’ve decided to take their eye off the ball an not go for promotion baffles me

Why was the brief just to keep us up with over 6 months to go?? That’s just silly.

Sparks said when he was appointed that eyes were on next season.

I think this keeping us up nonsense was just a reason to shout out that we have improved.

    We were not going down.

Just been chatting with a couple of guys I know (a scout and another coach) - interesting comment they made is they dont think our young joint managers have been getting key decisions over the past few matches. Refs are stubborn and egotistical by nature and dont like such 'youngsters' and largely unrecognised names having a go at them - I have only seen one of the past 4 games so cant really pass judgement but has it appeared this way to those who have?

They mentioned the Newport game and Flynny and his coaching staff were in the 4th officials ear throughout!

Very interesting. I'm not saying its the biggest issue we have, or that its responsible for our recent results, but now you mention it, I have noticed in recent games that we seem to be getting quite a few soft ones against us.

can’t really blame the referees. our attacking output is minimal an thats down to losing the midfield battle too often

At the game last night it was the Scunthorpe players and their manager who was having a go at the officials all night. T & S were relatively calm given the time-wasting.

It's completely wide of the mark. Paudie could easily have been sent off at Barrow (stamping on a player) and Oldham (professional foul). It's amazing how the officials weren't impacted in the first 15 games, but have switched in the last 5 when we haven't won :) It's a red herring.

Maybe it's because I've been watching matches in a very different way, this last 12 months, but I think, generally, the officials have done very well.

Admittedly Newport's free kick looked a poor decision but then, as you say, Paudie has probably benefitted from a couple of generous decisions in our favour.

Our worst enemy, over the last 5 matches, has not been the officials, it's been ourselves.

It's difficult isn't it. I still think overall our best bet is to stick with T&S and give them the chance to further overhaul the squad (based on cumulative results we've seen). If we lost another 7-9 this season however ..........

My take on the last few months is that T & S were given the job due to the lack of any other convincing candidates, and after an excellent run as temporary managers. They adopted a system that would make us hard to beat and for which we had the players. We achieved some excellent results and are now safe, but the inadequacies of the current squad, including most of the January signings, have been clear for all to see in the last five games. So, well done to T & S for what they've achieved, but there are some big questions.
    1. Is 4-2-3-1 their preferred system and the model they will use to recruit in the summer? If so I think it will quickly turn an awful lot of fans off, including me.
    2. Did they achieve the results they did due to good coaching and game management or were they just lucky?
    3. Can we trust them to rebuild the team in the summer, bearing in mind their relative lack of experience. We can forgive the poor calibre of the January signings, perhaps, because you have to take what's available and the ones who came in are better than those who left. Summer is a different matter.
    4. There are some concerning signs in Trueman's post match comments. I always judge a manager by how honest they are with the fans, and when a manager comes on the radio and paints a completely different picture to the one I've seen with my own eyes I start to think they've lost it. Trueman has, just recently, begun to do this, for me.
    5. Will they learn from their mistakes? Sticking rigidly to a failing formation, like for like substitutions far too late, constantly swapping Rowe and Cook, a different no.10 each game: these are worrying trends.
So the jury's out for me. I'd love T & S to be successful but there are too many warning signs for me to be confident that they will.

It’s an interesting thread and one worth discussion. To simplify it does anyone think they can lead us to promotion next season in what you’ve seen? If so then yes they should stay. If you don’t think they’re capable they should be replaced simple as that.

I’m as grateful as anyone at what they’ve done to keep us up, although it did rely on very basic tactics of being hard to beat and a lot of luck with some crazy goals and misses. But from what I’ve seen even during our winning run I’m not convinced they can take us up.

That said I hope they prove me wrong as I don’t think they’re going anywhere. Even on our run I said we held the cards and should only have given them until the end of the season so we could see how the team progressed, plus there’s always a bigger pool of candidates available in the Summer. I just hope we don’t regret jumping in feet first again, because the fan base has been dwindling for 4 years now and finances in the lower leagues is worse than ever with Covid. The club needs rejuvenating and to do that we need promotion next season.

    job with
Ok - here's the pitch: You've got a steady job with the Academy lads, and you seem to be doing alright, but the first team's in the sh*t - how about taking over for a few months and see what you can do? If the fans like you you can keep it, but as soon as they turn against you (usually after about 5 sh*t performances) you'll be out on your ear, and somebody else will be running the Academy. Whaddye say lads? Deal? Lads?

You mention 4-3-2-1 turning off fans, not when we were winning games consistently though did it.

I read a few fans on various social media platforms saying ditch them already and make a move for Wellens. Interestingly, 4-3-2-1 is Wellens preferred formation. He also has a very mixed career so far. Relegation in his first job with Oldham, promotion with Swindon.

The formation isn’t an issue, it really isn’t. But it does need an effective number 10 - we’ve missed Cooke, but in his absence, we must give Rowe a run of games there. It’s where he played for Oldham, and we look more dangerous with Cook and Rowe on the pitch together.
