Mezza's pace and his workrate allowed him a gig at a higher level. Worked very well with Law in the Wembley playoff season. Wood doesn't have the benefit of Mezza's pace but does have that ability of crossing accuracy and has a good long range shot on him when the chance arises. Wouldn't surprise me if a league one club took a punt on him next season, his crossing would benefit from a decent playing surface.

Maybe that is true but to my recollection they were not as productive. I found mezza frustrating because on occasions he did not cross when there was the opportunity and was more likely to check, play it to the man behind or just square - where we lost impetus. He was to his credit often left without a midfielder to protect him and has almost do the job of two players. Wood too does whip in lower crosses - they are not all aimed for the centre or far post.It would be interesting to compare the stats of both players.

It's definitely not true. Otherwise players like Beckham would have made a career out of crossing the ball at waist height.

Not that Meredith's were always waist height or adjusted behind the line anyway, most were almost hit and hope and certainly didn't produce a great deal that I remember.

It's Barnsley that want Wood, as they prepare for League One.

They've lacked a good left-footed left back for quite a while, dating back to last season, they've tried to plug the gap with 20 year old kids like Oduor, Ben Williams and even right back Jordan Williams, so it doesn't even look like he's destined for their crappy development squad either...

Contrary to what our fans think, Wood isn't a kid or particularly young - he's endured a difficult first season at City with relegation, then succeeded in League Two this year both defensively and in terms of his crossing accuracy.

I guess we just have to hope we ask for an acceptable amount from the 'undisclosed fee' that we'll inevitably get, coupled with the excuse Wood has only a year left on his deal :*@:*@:*@

Not to mention a significant sell on clause.

No doubt another talent who we won't see develop.

He isn't a kid but is still only 23 and vastly inexperienced at pro league level and he still has a lot to learn. If he has the chance to leave he should do. If he continues to develop and does get games then he may make it as a Championship player - with Barnsley or not.

One word was changed by predictive text and it's hardly difficult to work out which one. I'm confident you understood the post.

Reece Staunton impressed in friendly at Burnley today playing left back, and was up against Aaron Lennon

Auditioning for role when we sell Wood in the summer perhaps?
