Can’t argue against that but hindsight is a wonderful thing. If anything is to be learnt from last summer, maybe take your time instead of rushing in. I think most were signed up before preseason which left us limited in making adjustments.

 

Get the pair of them to play in goal together

 

That's what I could never understand. Hughes wanted to play a particular system but we signed loads of players that didn't fit it.

Right. I'm over that farce now!!

I'm unconvinced by Banks in our current system.

Unless Hughes is going to abandon it, then we'd be far better with an all round left midfielder, i.e. Wright or maybe we'll have it next season in Chapman.

I think Osadebe after a pre-season will be the high energy physical other midfielder we need, as all the good teams had two of these.

However, let's see the retained list.

I was please with Hughes latest comments, in that he hasn't hidden behind excuses (like he did on Saturday) but has promised improvements.

No need to be worried or pessimistic. I'm certain that MK Dons, Wrexham, Notts County, Salford and Mansfield should be just as worried about as us, about them.

 

We're not far off. A few tweaks to the squad and we'll be up there again.

 

Yep! I can't say I felt like that 46 hrs ago!!!

What a crazy set of 2nd legs these play-offs have been. It just shows how a frenzied crowd can dwarf any set of players, as us, Sunderland, Peterborough, Bolton and Salford have found to our cost (although Salford should have won and well done to Coventry for bucking that trend).

We have to take the positives - unbeaten against our Top 8 opponents since Boxing Day (when of course it was another no show at Carlisle!!)

But the negatives as well. We've been weak minded recently in some matches. Not all. The last two home performances have been fine - but strangely more away from home.

Still. It's been a lot better than the last five seasons.

 

No idea whether they could or not before they joined, neither did anyone else. If they say they knew then frankly they are telling porkies.

 

The players we have tied down are the problem. Young, East and Oliver were all brought in on long term deals and none of them became a first team starter. If Cook and Lewis go i'll be gutted but as a club we have a budget strategy that will have to be stuck to. Cook, if he gets offered a better deal elsewhere and Lewis because someone sees the potential in him and offers the club an offer neither they or Lewis can't turn down. Once the dust has settled i think we'll be in the mix with dozen other teams for promotion, our squad won't be significantly better than anyone elses in the top half. And hughes ain't gonna get lucky with another 25+ goal tally from Andy Cook.

 

We need the goals to spread out next season but the way Hughes favours to play I can’t see it

 

I wouldn’t let East go anywhere RT. He’s going to be better than Watt over time imho.

 

Theres potential there, but because of Hughes reluctance to play him thats all we've got to go on. Would like to think he gets a fair go next season but i'm not hopeful.

 

Could he play in Banks type role. He’s a little whippet, stranger things have happened?

 

I normally can see quickly what a player offers but i've not seen enough of East yet. Seems to have a good engine and moves across the ground better than any of the other midfielders. I'd say Hughes doesn't fancy him though and we need a midfielder that will replace Gilliead or Smallwood.

 

And that’s the point Hughes totally bins he doesn’t fancy so he needs to have a smaller squad of talented players that he is prepared to play

 

Good point, no reason to have a large squad if you aren't going to play them when the form of others drops.

 

Would like us to try and sign Ethan chislit who gave us quite a few problems would like Dan kemp but with no dons in our division looks very unlikely
