This is bound to get the juices flowing, for sure .............

    Or perhaps not !! :( .......

It started in both the stands and terraces ......... The crowd just KNEW that perfect ball played to a particular area, in a certain place ........ IT WAS A GOAL !!

Bobby Campbell, Bobby Ham, Jimmy Quinn, Sean McCarthy, Lee Mills ....... even Wells ..... The list goes on. Yet what do we hear, and have now ?

We HAD players who would, and could put their boots through the football lace, or just thump the perfect header on target. We are talking about boys who would bust a gut to score.

But let's not forget, although these former 'heroes' were served well by their team mates, they also worked well and hard enough to make, or create their own chances.

So .......... In modern times - WHAT is a good striker ?
Playing systems and tactics - thereby 'hoping' ?
Sod that .... Give me the 'Full on' hard and skilful player, any time.
    (Backed 100 % by his team mates !! )

Oh for a new Bobby Campbell but football has changed so much he would be booked that much he would never play

Any striker is only as good as the team around him. It depends on the striker and their comfort zone. Those strikers that score regardless of comfort zone are the ones all top teams want. We realistically can only afford the ‘comfort zone’ strikers.

However managers/coaches want to try and extend their skill set, but only a few make it. What I want to see is strikers playing in their preferred position and getting the kind service they want. Nevertheless whilst lots of clubs go after the strikers who bang in 20 every season, less attention is paid into how these were assisted!

My own particular preference and what I love to see is in midfield, the players who can spot a pass to either winger or striker, and doesn’t mind taking onto the defence and scoring himself.

My point in general, in addition to creating his own luck. Without good service, a striker is pretty screwed these days, in any league. :(

Without doubt a big part of Bobby's game was built around his physical ability to upset defenders and make them realise if they wanted to win the challenge they as sure as hell would know the guy also making that challenge would not pull out, boy do I miss those days.
