One of the best matches I have seen for ages. Could have gone either way but Argentina just about deserved it

Don’t think the match was between England and France was it.

No, thinking about it, you're absolutely right park.

I couldn't find a thread called France v Argentina either.

    My apologies.

Pedant? It's close but not the word I'd use.

Ps, strangely the match discussion of it was posted under the slightly misleading, apparently, title of "final".

    Truly remarkable occasion.
WOW! Quite possibly the greatest game of football I have ever seen. Second only to the battle of Upton Park... Maybe!
35 years old and Messi wins the world cup for the first time. Unbelievable! The ultimate cherry on top of the ultimate career..
It's amazing how football gives us these fairy tales that would even be too far-fetched in a Disney film. All these epic narratives coinciding and eventually entwining together in this one glorious occasion. Entertainment on another level altogether.
I thought when Mbappe scored to equalise for France that this was a symbolic moment where Messi was passing the torch to the next king of football for the next decade or so... But then Messi pulled yet another rabbit out of the hat. Not just yet, son..
    Truly incredible.
    I couldn't believe my eyes.
I'm just truly overwhelmed and humbled by the sheer magic of the beautiful game.
    Bring on Carlisle!!

It was a just over a third of a decent game, because France didn't turn up until the 80th minute. The first 80 minutes were amongst the most disappointingly anti-climactic ever. Amazing last forty minutes though.

Once it went to penalties it was a banker that Argentina would win, because France had a team of kids on the pitch by that point and Argentina's experience was always going to shine through in the shoot out. It also helped them that the ref let Martinez get away with his usual outrageous shithousery. He should have been booked immediately after kicking the ball away from the spot, not after he tried to again delay the next kick.
