The cynic in me says that fans seem to remember when plays poorly, which has been too often, and not the numerous matches where his play is fine.

He has to have good mobile players around him, i.e. Gilly and Walker or Walker and Pointon. Problem is, those combinations haven't been played, for that many matches.

 

Quality Richie Smallwood today. Massive performance. He gets a lot of criticism, some of it justified but without him today it may well have been a different story. On to Barrow we go!

We could see right from the start of the season (preseason) something was not right with Harry (maybe the Barnsley interest) I don't want to knock the guy but I don't think the way he started he gave his fellow defenders confidence in him, we certainly saw that early doors when Hughes was asking them to play out from the back.

That maybe so, but I want us to go into next season on a high. Teams that finish well start well. The fans enthusiasm at the start of the season needs feeding it will help during the lean times.

GA certainly has the lads fired up right now. We clearly missed Walker and Platt when they were out.

I posted this about what Alexander had said about dropping Walker for the Grimsby away game: Walker dropped because we needed to deal with set pieces, strange comment don't play potentially your most creative player so we can defend set pieces better, or have I misheard him, then says in his post match interview today Walsall are one of the top clubs who score goals from set pieces, I wonder if he's actually learnt from the Grimsby game, playing Odour for Walker.

 

I stand corrected. Looks like we would need both the Barrow and Crawley games to go our way.

Whatever happens, well done to GA and the players for getting to this position after that awful run.
If the guys are not up for Tuesday, they will never get up for any game.
Time we got something positive from our Cumbria visits.

If we did win at Barrow and Doncaster lose at Colchester who now look safe with a big goal difference over Sutton, the last game of the season would be Barrow 67 points with 7 + less how many we score Doncaster 2+ less how many they lose to Colchester by and City -2 plus how many we beat Barrow by, the attendance at Valley Parade will be very interesting that last game of the season fans paying their respects and the possibility of wining against Newport and if the other games go for us clinch a play off place, I think I'll bring a couple of beta blockers.

 

Look at Bristol Rovers last season.....a late run and a massive win to get promoted against ALL the odds,,,so miracles do happen !!

 

Colchester are basically safe now. They'll relax but Donny are too good.
