A quick word for Walsall too. I haven't seen a side collapse that quickly since us at Luton. And before that you'd have to go all the way back to us at Gillingham.

No Mellor was first off at half time, was like starting pistol for 100 metres!!! Agree though they were horrendous, as posted in other thread literally had to crawl up the road to get our lift to the game....

 

I think my mind must have been addled by the win...or maybe it was the wine at dinner...or both! I should have specified that the Portsmouth & Bristol City matches were successive League matches, *but* with a League Cup match in between (0-1 loss at Leeds).

For truly successive matches, these seem to be the latest instances:

• League: 83/4 -- 5-2 and 4-1 home wins against Wimbledon and Orient
• League + FA Cup: 86/7 -- 4-0 vs. Millwall in the League and 5-1 vs. Oldham in the cup
• League + League Cup: 2001/2 -- 5-0 vs. Gillingham in the League after 4-0 vs. Rotherham in the cup

The question that prompted all this made me look over the records again just now. We never have been a free-scoring side, but in our earlier days we did have more successive high-scoring games. I don't know if we'll ever match or better the one sequence from the 1928 season: successive 8-0, 8-0, 5-0, and 5-0 wins! The best we've done in my lifetime are the consecutive 6-0 defeats of Darlington (League Cup) and Exeter (League) in the 93/4 season, edging out the 4-0 and 7-1 League wins over Lincoln and Barrow in 63/4.
