Encouraging words from stuart this morning. Clearly knows like the rest of us that he's a quality player if used properly and is of course by far and away our best striker.

It already seems that he's put an arm round the shoulder and made him feel wanted, which is obviously the opposite of what Bowyer did.

Hopefully a big player for us next season.

Yeah, I said this before. As much he kicked off at bowyer its good to see stuart is making sure he has the heart to stick around. Do think he will enjoy his football a lot more under stuart too. Him and Novak would be a decent front two for this league... Apparently they played together at town so hopefully that partnership can propel us up the league.

Novak as the battering ram & leave Vaughan as the poacher instead of the target man, Donaldson a good option of the bench if only we could get someone with lack of eyesight to take Guthrie and replace him with a pacy loanee/free transfer

I don't read this as an arm around him, I see it as Stuart basically saying if he doesn't pull his socks up and lose the attitude, then there's no place for him at Bradford City. "There will be things that will be kept personally between me and James". In otherwords, play to my rules, or find a new club.

It's how i see it anyway. Either way, hope it works, as I think Vaughan could be one of the top strikers in the division if his head is in the right place.

Vaughan left for one reason only - Boring Bowyer.
I have it that they had an almighty bust up due to Borings tactics/lack of service etc during training at Apperley Bridge and Vaughan stormed off.
Maybe most of his bookings were due to the lack of service which caused frustration.

I believe that under McCall we will see a very different James Vaughan.

Novak and Vaughan is an excellent duo at this level. Clayton as an alternate, also excellent.

But not one of those forwards can take a game by the scruff or win it on their own or score without supply.

    But with supply?

Front line sorted. The midfield must improve.

In McCall we trust, especially for assembling a midfield.

If it's taking lengthy chats to ascertain whether a senior professional, former captain with two years left on his contract is committed to the club then I think you have your answer. We wasted the whole of last season messing about with sulky strikers that never seemed satisfied with the service received, we can't afford another one.

I can't think there will be more than maybe one other side with a better third striker than Clayton.

It's an embarrassment of riches for League Two, let's be honest.

Is it Bowyer's fault we were Vaughan's seventh club in four years?

The fact he can't seem to last more than a few months anywhere suggests it might be that he's the problem.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Lancaster during the weekend we played Morecambe back in October. To our surprise the team came in at midday for their pre-match meal. Seeing my little lad with his city top on Richard O’Donnell came across to talk to us and told me to bring him and my daughter down to meet the players. They were all sat across 3 long tables, all very polite and were happy to have a chat with the kids who obviously were in awe. The only player not sat there was Vaughan who was sat on a table on his own away from the rest. He’d been suspended for the previous game and I suspect he’d been told by Bowyer he wasn’t starting the Morecambe game not long before the meal. His body language was poor to say the least, yet to be fair to him he did offer to have have picture taken with the kids when we made our way back out of the restaurant.

Bowyer was a strange one. Friendly enough and he thanked us for travelling to watch, but his demeanour was very much like that of a school teacher. The players weren’t bantering on and having a laugh, they looked like they’d been told to sit quietly and eat their meal.

He had a great season at Bury, but got caught out in the Championship. Lack of quality rather than attitude. Also at Sunderland they were loaded up top.

Fans were fuming at Bowyer, so was Vaughan.
