To say we're the 12th biggest city in the UK, have attendances in L2 that beat that of Championship sides, and sit 9th in the bottom league says everything about our club. The only similar cases I can think of are Plymouth and Sunderland, and they're in a better position than us.

Every club of our size would be expected to achieve promotion the first time of asking, except they usually do that in L1. We're in League 2.

We don't own our ground. We don't even own our training ground. Our pitch is an abysmal mess.

Our owner pretends to be interested in backing the club when in reality he's trying to break even and is waiting to sell. If he was interested in making us a successful club, he would've at the minimum funded a purchase/construction of our own training ground.

We loaned out our top scorer to the League above for defying the manager, who we gave the transfer window, THEN SACKED.

I'm of the understanding that funds weren't available to sustain a professional-tier pitch because those funds were allocated to the wage/transfer budget? Why is it one or the other? If he can't afford to fund a L2 promotion squad AND a playable pitch then why fecking buy the club?

We're a joke from top to bottom with no direction, philosophy or intent. Until that changes we'll be sat in this league until fan interest wanes out.

You missed a rather important factor there.

Crap leadership vision & zero philosophy.

I guess we are back to our spiritual home of the khazi league. In truth, we're just another league 2 side in dire need of another Phil Parkinson to drag the club out of the doldrums. To see where we are now compared to a large number of apparently 'smaller' clubs in league 1, the worst team in Yorkshire by some distance, our nearest 'rivals' at least two or three divisions above us. Ain't gonna lie, it hurts, it sucks the enthusiasm i have for football out of me. I stood there at Salford questioning why i bother. Another 90 minutes of utter nothingness. Against a side who a couple of years ago were watched by one man and his dog. Who player for player were better than us, with a bigger budget than us. No doubt i'll be there again on Saturday. To watch yet another 90 minutes of dross on a cabbage patch.

It doesn't really sell itself does it?

I'd say we're the worst team in the whole football league with our fan base, decent size stadium and City size etc etc, but still continue to be absolutely shocking, it really is embarrassing.

What a stupid thing to say.

Rhodes may be limited in terms of effecting the football side of things, but he has done a huge amount of positive work for this football club.

That he needs a footballing man alongside him doesn't make him cancer.

    Ridiculous.

At the time it was not a bad deal we were a Championship club, unfortunately as we drooped down the league it then became a burden, not sure anyone would have made a different choice.
As I remember it Julian had 2 choices a standard payment no matter what league we were in or payments based on what league we were playing in, he went for the former.

I believe David Rhodes used the family home as collateral, he joined the meeting late and told the assembled audiance what he'd done as there were some pretty sh1ty comments being made with regards the powers that be at the time.

I'd say one of the biggest contributory factors as to where we are is this persistent notion that we're a big club that shouldn't be where we are. Once we shake off this entitlement psyche we'll start climbing again.

There is some truth in the first part of that but the second part is wrong. Since 1960 we've spent 47 seasons in the bottom two divisions and 13 seasons in the top two divisions, the most of them being in league 2 (24). A pretty damning statistic as to what status our club holds. And thats where your comment regarding climbing is wrong. The myth about us being a big club has come solely from the success Richmond gave us and something he should be applauded for. It was him alone that took this club from its position or perennial loser to a club punching above its weight. He alone allowed us to dream. But i remember even back then it didn't sit right with large section of our fans who had been brought up on a constant diet of shite, it was part of our DNA and hard to shake off.
The thruth, as you rightly allude to, is we have never and will never be that big club. Most of the time we're there to make up the numbers, 6 times finishing in the top three of a division in 116 years, success has never really been a priority at this club has it?
What i would say is change the word 'entitlement' for 'ambition'. Ambition breeds success, success becomes part of your club culture, our culture and the ambition of our club needs to change. Until this does, young upstarts from non league with a winning culture will continue to bypass us while we sit in our spiritual home.
