I believe Trump his asked he legal people if that can be changed and he could have a third term, I'm not sure there aren't already external influences involved in elections and if he runs a massive company like X then I would expect him to try and influence the government of said country many do, many have come to tax agreements with HMCR in the past.

Would be interesting to see the accounting to get 100 million out of a company that makes a profit of 5 million. It probably makes more of a profit than that but it will pay a lot of it out to subsiduries of the main companies for services etc to bring the profit level down in the UK and reduce the tax exposure but to leave the cash there to donate would increase the tax liability.
If nothing else it will keep the tax accountants and HMRC busy looking into loop holes etc

Only just properly catching up on this thread and saw this. Hope you are okay, I think spending less time on the Internet and more time moving and enjoying life is probably a good goal for us all. I really hope it helps to improve your health.

You must be gutted though. After 14 years of Tory rule you now had a chance to rub our faces in the massive improvements as Sir Kier meticulously ticked off all the pledges from both his leadership run and fully costed manifesto. Showing us that the grown ups were now back in charge by vehemently upholding high standards of behaviour and honesty in public life while showing us how the lives of "working people" could be improved by just taking a little more from those "with the broadest shoulders". Poor timing for you. Hopefully one of the other vocal left wing contributers will step up on these aspects and keep the forum interesting.

Hope the new lifestyle sorts the issues out for you mate.

What's this? Someone I'm power that seems to want to do the right thing in terms of how our systems are run. There may be hope for the Labour Party yet.

Let's see how hard the establishment push against this sort of change. "We've always done it this way" is a tough habit to break.

Last week, the Prime Minister stated that he would 'update' me on publishing statistics around the number of foreign nationals accessing Universal Credit. I am yet to receive any update.

The British public deserve to know this information.

My letter just sent to Keir Starmer:

    forgin criminals.jpg

You have to wonder why this government are reluctant to disclose these numbers ?.

I'm sure they are numbers that will cause even more concern from the British electoral but as a government who's job it is to be transparent and serve the people we have a right to know the break down which given Starmers reply they obviously have.

Anyone's kids had a whole mass scale of christmas events at their school cancelled?

Twitter seems to be telling us that Christmas is being banned, but if anything the school are absolutely milking me with present rooms, christmas discos, christmas dinners, etc.

So I'm just wondering where exactly "Christmas is being cancelled".

I've noticed a load of bollocks flying about at the moment about next years locals election not going ahead, which is rubbish as they 100% will do.

There is also a big push from some that certain trials are being scheduled on the same date as Trumps inauguration as if to hide them from the spotlight without taking into account that 1, these trials will run for weeks and will be reported on every day and 2, Trump wasn't even confirmed as president when these dates were set so it could have been Harris who was been inaugurated 3, those shouting the most are from various "news channels" where their news channel can send a reporter to the courts every single day and report on the day's proceedings.

Ironically, GB News will probably be one of the channels creaming themselves over Trump inauguration rather than reporting on these trials (which on day 1 will have nothing to report on that isn't public knowledge anyhow).

They certainly will be covering the trials where as their will be little if any from our unbiased BBC, Sky News and they like.
And why shouldn't GB News be creaming themselves with regards the imagination of Trump a incoming American President who is proud of his country and puts his fellow country men/women first, something we could only dream about.

Some people are really on the Kool Aid if they think that the trial of Southport accused in going to be buried in the media.

The point about coverage of Trump was to point out that the news channel which is most likely to claim the news is being buried will no doubt be focusing on Trump themselves.

I'm sure after it's being claimed they are an anti Muslim TV channel the terrible things we witnessed at Southport will be well covered by GB News, I'm hoping they will cover the Manchester Airport incident as vigorously, if and when that case comes to trial ?.

Are we in a position where the colour of someone's skin make the crime more heinous and newsworthy?

Did you know recently a man and a woman were convicted of killing a little girl after horrendous abuse. You probably did because it was all over the news, but that wasn't the only one, it's the one the media ran with but there was another one.

"Scott Jeff has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 26 years, while Chelsea Gleason-Mitchell was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment."

Not really a peep anywhere about this in the main news. An absolutely horrendous crime with all the hallmarks of the Star Hobson case here in West Yorkshire but the Sara Sharif murder equally horrendous is the one that all the focus is on.

I hope the scum who broke the police woman's nose get hit with the full force of the law, but why is that case any difference to the hundreds of assaults on police men and woman on weekly basis that don't even make the news?

To me a scumbag is a scumbag whatever colour skin they have.

What a strange reply, as you say the Star Hobson case got national coverage and rightly so a horrendous case, hence why it's nothing to do with skin colour more to do with two tier justice that we have been seeing recently, and from what we saw of that incident those two were certainly scumbags, wonder why it's taken so long for the CPS to come to a decision to prosicute or not, as the Manchester Police gave them all the information they had on the incident months ago why has it taken so long to make the call to prosecute them having the evidence for nearly 6 months.

It is baffling but if you watch 24 hours in police custody especially the episode from last night, there was a woman who had been attacking her boyfriend over and over, and she had already been in jail for 6 months. Then she attacked him again leaving a bleed on the brain, the CPS allowed for a charge of GBH and less than a week later the guy died, but they wouldn't upgrade it to murder or even manslaughter. So this woman killed a man and got 18 months in jail. I really don't think people see that these things are really not a one off. Talking about assaulting police, due to a lack of barristers someone walked free even when it did get to court. see here.

Man who seriously assaulted a Sussex Police officer - leaving him with severe injuries - walks free from Crown Court

Regarding assaulting a police office, this case has been highly publicised but the reality is it's the tip of the iceberg.

"In the year ending March 2023, 40,330 assaults on police officers were recorded, which averages to 110 assaults per day"

And we have Farage complaining that someone throwing a milkshake over him warrants jail time. I've got to learn a lot about the goings on at crown court from a friend who works there. Some of the time it depends what judge you get, my mate winds the accused up telling them you've got a proper hardcase of a judge.
