I’d love a Bradford C / Cheltenham half and half scarf. Where do I get one?......

Should have seen all the tat sellers at Celtic yesterday. I’m sure some young uns left with a memento of today, in that respect it’s hard to get too annoyed, but i do understand the frustration that nothing will go towards the foundation. It was probably tricky for the club to get enough stuff together to sell it themselves. It’ll be back to just the bloke selling the pin badges soon enough though.

There is an argument that if the club shop stocked a wider range of products, rather than just replica kits, training gear & cheap crap with a badge stuck on, they wouldn’t be a gap in the market for the likes of ‘badge man’ to fill.

Retro shirts, badges, quality clothing been missing from the City shop for years, including well before ‘him’ .

Will always be a gap in the market because of cost, club has to operate on bigger margins to recoup overheads. What overheads does a street seller have?

Club Shop is now back in the hands of Avec so club will just get a lump sum so I guess they are not interested in increased sales as there is nothing in it for them.

I always thought they should team up with the Bulls regarding the shop in town half the costs each but I guess that'll never happen ,and a little tuck shop corner for Avenue

I am not sure that there are ‘big costs’? Permission would surely be one single fee. If the legitimate street traders, burger bars etc have the ability to do so, then I do not see it as an insurmountable problem. Programme sales are dropping so incorporating this with small ‘pop up’ stalls may well be a way of preserving jobs. Just trying to generate a ‘Can Do’ rather than ‘No Can Do’ mentality. Think positive rather than always looking purely at obstacles.

    Just checked, https://www.bradford.gov.uk/business/licensing/licensing-fees/
    1. Occasional Street Trading Consent - Commercial:
      1. Half Day - £47
      2. 1 Day - £100
      3. 1 Week (7 Days) - £470.
So if the club or a franchise already pays a fee or the programme sellers you would switch the licensing fee.

I think having stalls inside the ground on the concourse is a good idea.
It cuts down on the variables of cost (license) location (you'd need multiple stalls to cover different routes to the ground) and the vagaries of the weather in Northern England in winter.
Theres a lot of space in the lower tier of the
main stand concourse that could be put to good use.

Glenn Ackroyd has left apparently. Needs more time to devote to his fledgling street trading/pop up shop business perhaps.

Does the club still have a stand in the Broadway?
That is/was always stocked with the most popular selling items.

The Club should consider some sort of franchise or tie up with one (or more) City centre bars. Somewhere that could sell match tickets, matchday programmes and a range of merchandise.

Do you think all the merchandise being sold on Wembley way was ‘official’
If it’s not private property there’s nothing anyone can do about it. You could put a burger van outside McDonalds and there’s feck all they can do so long as it’s not using their name or logo.

The club should have people selling scarfs outside the ground and inside the ground they should sell merch too

Surely there's big costs in setting up something like that though? We'd have to have permission for every single stall and then pay for staff to run them all instead of just one cost, that we already pay for, too use the shop.

This is the advantage the street trader has. They are most likely illegally trading with no set up or planning costs but aren't there often enough for the council to be bothered. If it was the football club opening numerous shops on street corners they'd be all over us.

Seems a possibility then but wouldn't they have to pay that amount per pitch? Plus the relevant insurances and staffing costs?

It's a good suggestion and maybe it's both easier and cheaper than I imagine but i would have thought that plenty of clubs would have done this by now if it was commercially viable.

NB, I'm not sure the programme sellers come within the street trader laws. I think just outside the turnstiles counts as within the confines of the stadium and as such the are no applicable laws with regards trading consent.

Licenses would be needed for each street at least, possibly each location, as this needs stating on the license. Obviously they wouldn't be needed for on private land. Not sure on the cost per application.
