Tommy Smith RIP

Saw him a couple of times in the flesh at Elland Road, he'd had left Liverpool before we played them in that great home win against Liverpool in the Milk Cup, what a good player never asked for or gave an inch.they don't make em like Tommy any more, perhaps as well he'd just give them one of those looks to today's players and they'd be rolling about in agony.

Once went to a Sportsmans' Dinner and he was the guest speaker. His whole act was about how much of an arsehole Emlyn Hughes was and how much he hated him. A few months later Hughes died and I presume Smith's act died with him. Can't speak Ill of the (recently) dead can you?

 

I remember him at the tail end of his career as I was just getting into football.

RIP.
