Im not comparing the two, just saying both wern't rated by Parkinson and we didn't fight to keep them.

It was a very good deal at the time. It still is if we can get a sizeable sell on fee.

 

From what i saw I can't say i rated him, but at youth level he was a decent player - I think he was on trial at Man Utd scoring for their youth team. We jumped the gun getting rid for a quick buck. I doubt the current owners would have shipped him out for £200k.

 

It's not just that simple though, once an offer comes in from a Premier League club the player will know very quickly and 95% of players will want the move so the decision will have almost been taken out of our hands as we would be faced with the choice of taking the money or having a potentially unhappy player. Even if he had of stayed there's nothing to say he would have improved as he did as at Swansea he will have had top class coaches, facilities and be facing better players. Also at Swansea he was allowed to develop naturally without the pressures he would have had here where some fans were writing him off as a professional footballer never mind league 1.

 

I'm waiting on Dylan Mottley Henry to prove whether the development squad is pointless or worthwhile for Barnsley.

I'm not aware of a player graduating from the development squad that didn't come through their academy?

I'm not impressed that he's at Barnsley, when they just hoovered up enough numbers - I'll be impressed when those numbers begin to matter.

 

In fairness he was great in our last back to back wins Oxford and Fleetwood

Remember, back in those heady days, when we thought we had a chance of stopping Blackburn or Wigan

 

He had a good spell on loan at Tranmere earlier in the season.

They've given him another contract so they must think he has a chance. He has that raw pace and that's something you can't teach.

He didn't slip through their net according to Trevor Francis who was the manager at the time. He said they never had any real intention of signing him, it was more of a favour to Platini to get Cantona in the shop window in England.
