Interesting that you see Songo'o still key to us as a CB. Not disagreeing. He was a bloody trooper towards the end of the season. Whatever, we now have a potentially strong set of central defenders there.

 

I believe Parker literally said he was likely Watt’s replacement way back when he signed.

 

It's how you attract players. Offer certainty. It shows you have confidence in them

 

I don't see him as a key starter but because can play both defence and midfield key squad player

 

Is that guaranteed? I'm not being negative but that seems a very blaise comment.

All upgrades? Watt, Vernam and POC.

I mean our 3 'best' players of last season and not able to retain. Could be a blessing but maybe, it may work the other way.

It's a yes and no from me on our 3 best players. Maybe it's only a recency effect thing that so many people have Watt, Vernam and Paudie have them there. All three were in and out all season - Vernam out injured for alot of games - and showed a lack of consistency, sometimes at crucial times. POC losing his rag and the ball; Watt losing the ball and giving away dumb fouls; Vernam often not having enough match intelligence and running on or behind players when he wasn't reading the game. Credit to them all. There were patches and runs of games when they all looked really good. But over the full piste of the season, all too in and out for a 22/23 team that we want to see promoted. And in answer to the inevitable post reply - no, I couldn't name our three best players from last season because everyone was erm. What we've been crying out for a player like Richie Smallwood to get us organized on the pitch.

 

East is Watts type of player. Hes already been replaced.

An unknown quantitiy but Watt wasnt that good. His entire 2 years neatly summed up in 8 or 9 decent games. We have options in the middle...maybe not many with Watts style but deffo got the numbers.

 

I think he'll prove to be a good signing, Jon. He'll go about his work efficiently, pass well, won't waste the ball. Won't seek out the spotlight and will be a good team player. We'll need some players like that now we've got a few flair players.

 

Tbf he’s played more games than Watt had when we signed him, and Watt has never been in a top half league two squad. Anything can be twisted any which way. I’d rather Louis Reed who kept East out of the Swindon team but he won’t be going to another league two team like Watt did if he leaves. Watt didn’t really bring goals and assists so we need someone who can retain the ball ala Nicky Law if we’re going to be a possession based team.

 

According to Wikipedia any opposition forward ‘backing’ into him may be in for a bit of a surprise.

 

Salford were in for him and he ended up choosing us? You'd have thought he would have wanted to go to a club with a Manager that could improve him, doesn't sound like he has much ambition does it?
