No, they could come up with better than that, maybe take the timekeeping out of refs hands with a clear clock on the big screen adjudicated by another official from the stands, stopping at all times ball not in play (and in goalies hands...!!) ....

    Some ideas in this:
Throw ins-once a player has the ball in his hand-he has 5 seconds to throw it or it goes the other way
Goalkeepers-once the ball is in their hands they have 10 seconds to get rid or a free kick is awarded to the opposition
Dead ball kicks must be taken within 15 seconds of the defending team having the ball in their possession. If not the player in possession of the ball gets a yellow card
Subs-add 1 minute per player to the end of the half/game

I know these are unrealistic :laughing: but it would speed the game up somewhat.

Or they could just enforce some of the existing laws that they consistently ignore.
We’ve both watched lots of football over many years.
How many times have you seen a goalkeeper penalised for holding the ball for longer than 6 seconds?
I will wager it’s less than five and more than likely none.

FIFA made a big thing of announcing that time wasting was going to be clamped down on but one of the easiest ways to do that has been ignored for as long as I can remember.

We saw in the World Cup that 8,9,10 minutes were regularly added on at the end of some halves of football.

We got 1 minute at the end of the first half yesterday after 45 minutes of not very subtle time wasting.

How the refs can just decide to ignore one of the easiest laws to enforce is beyond me.

I would like a rule like in rugby. If a player goes down injured, even a head injury, then the physio is allowed onto the pitch to treat them, but in the meantime play continues unless it interferes with play

In rugby league you have a physio and a doctor

Physio comes on and play continues... If he summons the doctor play stops and player goes off for assesment

The referee lost it early yesterday. The strangest incident was when their guy went down near the dugout and rolled back onto the pitch, before being rolled off and suddenly he was on his feet from being near dead slinging handbags.
