Fordy, your missing my point and to say I googled some ex players is way wide of the mark. I checked the results for our league, then checked the table, as most fans do on a Saturday night!!
As a club we operate on such a short term basis, almost Season to Season, this was implemented by Parkie under Lawn & Rhodes & produced success. All monies were fed into the first team to the detriment of everything else.
This engenders a short term approach to player development, When we bring in a young player, if they don’t look like the finished article within a very short space of time we demand they are let go or sent back because their not good enough for the mighty BCFC.
Patrick scored a worldie against Oxford away and he’s the best thing since Messie, then shock horror, actually he’s a young inexperienced player trying to learn his trade. We all decide he’s stealing a wage.
As stated in an earlier post lots on here thought McBurnie wasn’t good enough for god sake!
In my opinion we need to take a longer term view on younger players, they will make mistakes and be inconsistent, they will go through periods where they don’t perform and drop out of the team. Some won’t make it, however which ever way you dress it up, two of our “rejects” have played a pivotal role in helping Carlisle to the top of the league, two players BCFC IN 18th PLACE decided weren’t good enough. I’ve no idea how Devine’s doing for them, maybe he’s injured or can’t make the squad.
We don’t know what the deal with Wolves Is with Samuel’s, he’s never going to make it at Wolves, so we might have an option for him come the end of the season, just like we did with Paudie. Can we cut him some slack and see how he develops, we all thought Wells was useless when he first signed, we need to stop being so impatient!!

In all walks of life, people develop / mature at different rates.
The big problem with city is that we are looking for instant sucess. So any young player that appears in the first team is deemed as not good enough, if they dont reach and maintain a high level of performance. How often does that happen, very rarely throughout the whole of football.
People on here talk about structure and forward planning, these things take time and it does appear that we have finally joined the party. We are currently in a poor position , but i think we will have enough to survive , probably with a few bumps along the way and start to build for next season. As i say these things take time, we appear to have a reasonable set of youngsters at the moment, lets get behind them . It reminds me very much of the early eighties , a few old pros and a set of young players, who matured togethor over a few seasons and turned in to one of the best footballing sides in my lifetime.Mason Handshake, hippo and Meltham Massive like this. -
Football clubs have lost millions and you only need to see by this current window that the market is slow in terms of buying.
If Wood isn't to sign a new contract then we are best of selling him now.
As for Staunton if the offer is right then we sell and use the money to improve.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...1975citygent, Captain Grumpy and shoatsy like this. -

If you determine ambition as always selling your best players to help pay the bills then Posh are very ambitious.
Ambition to me is building a side decent enough to get into the Championship.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Apperley Bridge Bantam, Bronco and bailiff bridge bantam like this. -

You can say that they do very well considering how small their crowds are.
Or you can take @Bigrod 's viewpoint - ie, maybe they get such small crowds (despite having a massive catchment area in an affluent part of the country, with no competing big clubs nearby) because they constantly sell their best players and scupper their own promotion chances.
Maybe if they achieved a better balance between finance and on-field success - instead of always prioritising finance - they would attract the sort of crowds that their advantageous geographical position suggests they ought to get. They could then stabilise at a higher level due to bigger ST sales and gate receipts. Just a thought.Keefly Bantam, Bronco and Bigrod like this. -

Once that has has been built, they then have to rely on being able to repeat the trick to finance a push up the leagues, what happens if Barry Fry pegs it or falls out with DM ?

Wood.
He ain't signing a new contract.
Anyone offer +£50k, reckon he's offskiGoose and Dratsab taf like this. -
DMH, Guthrie, Longridge. Each, offer nothing. Donaldson isn’t much better, but presumably he’s out come the summer anyway. The rest i think are worth keeping until the summer.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...RCarol and 1975citygent like this. -
Longridge can’t get a look in. Reckon he, BRE, DMH and Guthrie will be told they can leave.
Think we could terminate Samuels’ loan too if better is about.
Wood doesn’t seem interested in signing a new deal (surely has been offered one?) but if he goes maybe Longridge would stay?
Id keep Don and get him involved in the coaching set up if he has coaching ambitions.Wombat and 1975citygent like this. -
