    1. Not enough points
    2. Not enough goals scored.
    3.Too many goals conceded.
    4. Not enough gumption from the players.
    5. Too much money wasted on deadwood.
I'm sure there's more statistics to follow.

Ouch! Add in the rest of his season's analyses, and it becomes ouch squared. But there again, just like our season, we weren't record-breakingly, laughably, bad -- just depressingly, sordidly, disappointingly, bad. Even as failures we failed at being absolute failures!

How about: record-breaking number of ticket-holders disguising themselves as empty seats.

A few more files to update, and I can throw this season into the dustbin of history. I've rarely, if ever, found it so easy to dismiss one season and look forward to the next, as this time around.

    That made me laugh!

It has to be the only memorable highlight (if indeed it can be called that!) of our 2018/19 season.

Out of interest RCB, how long have you been doing the whole stats thing and how far does it go back?

One point from a losing position is surely the key stat. No fight, no leaders, no chance if we didn't get the first goal.

And even then it was touch and go.

That stat is absolutely damning. All teams had to do was get the first goal and they nailed on a win.

Seems like most of my life! But really, I started keeping season-by-season records around the time of McFarland. It was a godsend when Terry Frost's Complete Record book came out, as that took care of most everything I wanted to know from our foundation through the 1987/8 season. Since then I've been trying to do as he did in the book, with a few additions of my own, and compile a "complete record" for each season, as well as keep my master files of players, managers, and season stats up to date.

Yes, it is a long long time since we were so bad in that area. This is one of the things I've been looking at in my season summaries. I've no idea how other teams have performed when trailing, either at the half or at any point in a match; I suspect most teams would have poorish records. But this season was exceptional for us -- 0-1-18 when trailing at the half, and 0-1-27 when trailing at any point. Bad in two ways: the number of times trailing, and the end results.

I've so far only compiled the stats back to the 1997/8 season, but generally we have at least picked up 1 or 2 wins, and a few draws, when trailing at the half, and have been better when trailing at any point -- much more time to recover from an early goal against. But the only other time we didn't pick up at least 1 win from a trailing at any point position was back in 1999/00. In contrast, in that 2016/7 season, we went 5-10-7 when trailing at any point -- that team had the right make-up.

    Indeed it is.
I began a scrap book in Summer 1967. I then transferred all info and all there after into an A4 'hard back' book. Moving to Germany in late '76 made it hard to keep up, and I missed so many valuable issues out. I started again post 1980, but again, constant moving hindered that.
On my fiftieth birthday, my wife bought me a wonderful gift ....... A Daily / Sunday Mirror Leather covered hard back chronicling City's progress 'in the news'. This featured genuine news copies of all reported games (including Cup matches) which had appeared in the Mirror. :)

As the book is now nearly 30 years out of date, and all the subsequent seasons data is missing, here is your opportunity to produce the 1988/2020 (when we win the League 2 title by a @BSABantam74@BSABantam74 record number of points/goals;)) version. Not much point all this material gathering the electronic version of dust. A thirty two year absence is significant.

I look forward to a season such as BSA demands -- it would put even the 1928/9 one to shame! Now first, we need to re-install a club legend as manager, and then uncover Albert Whitehurst Mk. II. Easy!

I might even have most of my files mostly in order by our championship celebrations... I've reached 96/7 now, on my way back to 88/9 in the season-by-season ones, but there's the master lists too that still need tweaking. Any formal updating and re-publishing of Frost's book would in the first instance be his prerogative, as the original author. I suppose though that a purely statistical supplement covering the years since could find a home online, if not in print, and not step on any toes.
