Disgusting little man is Lynch. Public support is dwindling very quickly. If the staff can afford to take all these days off with no pay striking they’re already being paid too much! Plus the service is absolutely terrible and with much less foot fall due to the pandemic, what planet are these guys on !? Hope the government stand firm and squish the little weird gremlin.

Agreed, the right to strike should be abolished no matter what industry you’re in.
What about people who work for private companies who haven’t had pay rises ? Can they strike? , holding their bosses to ransom.

    Amazon workers did!

The Rail companies are private firms, they de nationalised in 1994 and are now in ‘private hands’.

Yes they can and do strike. Latest figures for September 2022 show an unprecedented increase. Hope that helps answer your question.

The level of ignorance being shown here by some of the comments is Daily Express, Daily Mail brain washing level.

It proves it works for the hard of thinking?

We could always join that list of countries where the right to join a trade union is banned. The list includes

    China
    Belarus
    Kazakhstan
    Saudi Arabia
    North Korea
    Egypt

and a few other totalitarian states where employee rights are very thin on the ground. We'd be in good company!

As of course is Royal Mail after it was privatised nearly 10 years ago. It's a Czech billionaire who is now responsible for our postal deliveries!

Of course it is. It'll stop when this feckin useless government gives workers in essential public services (whether publicly or privately owned) the decent pay rise that most of them haven't had for the last decade.

Everyone should have a right to strike - the ones organised over the actual Christmas period seem particularly mean spirited against the general public though.

The issue I have with general unionised strikes is that it takes away from the fact that there is no benefit to an individual actually doing a good job. If I want a pay rise I have to go up my chain and show what value I provide for the company and then why they should remunerate me better judged on that.

It seems like people like the train staff can simply accept that the service they give is shambolic, refuse to modernise that to a sleeker way of working and simply use removal of work as a bargaining tool without it bringing about improvement and while rewarding both the good workers and the bad ones. While you can argue that fair for the workers it's not really beneficial generally.
