The Magic of Chris Waddle

FROZEN for everybody but 25 Yearers. LIARS.

 

His goal at Everton (in fact the whole game and result) will forever be up there in my top city memories.

One of the most talented players I ever saw in a city shirt.

 

He could hug the touchline and leave a defender on his arse and the ball never seemed to change direction, absolute magician

 

Upper tier, halfway line ! Wonderful day!

 

Was also there upper tier next to the netting. Special day out.

 

Friday night game in 1996.
Huddersfield away.3-0 up in 30 minutes.
Waddle scored (might have been direct from a corner)and was brilliant.
Best feeling in the world to be 3-0 up away at your biggest rivals.
They come back to 3-3 and the worst feeling in the world.

 

Barnsley at home. Barnsley got promoted to the PL easily and he tore Nicky Eaden apart. Eaden was in the PFA team of the year. Waddle was 36 I think. Had no pace but had more feints than a current premier league game. Eaden may have been subbed off. Waddle just toyed with him. Unusually I was sat in the main stand so had a brilliant view of Waddles tricks. He must have been some player to watch in his prime.

 

We were on the front row as well, best seats in the house.

 

We were in a similar position but a few rows back. That picture in my head will never leave. I just loved watching him play. He was so skilful. The Everton goal was the very best. Huddersfield away was also something special. Their team just couldn’t believe it, standing around looking as to how he managed to score from the corner.

 

Same spot, lower tier. Nearly ended up been dragged down onto the pitch when it went in. I don’t have the best memory, but strangely can remember the goals a lot of that day quite clearly

 

Only goal I've ever seen scored by a player taking a corner, apart from a trip to The Shay where the player taking the corner took it short to himself and whacked it in from just in front of the corner quadrant. That was disallowed for offside !

 

I still remember Schwarzer’s save from a Ferguson header.
One of the best saves I’ve seen at a City game.

 

I though the referee was going to play on until Everton equilised, it seemed an eternity before he blew or the final whistle.

 

Exactly the same at Norwich Dave, in the 70’s cup game, a flippin eternity!

 

I was at that game too. But what a time to be a City fan. That 5 year period between 95 and 2000 was just magic. So lucky to have seen some real quality. Has to be the best era in our history?

 

Best ever keeper to play for City. Certainly in my lifetime.

 

Everton away was unreal. Got to be up there with the game at wolves.

Have vague recollection of waddle making a fool of a baggies full back that season too, but wondering if my mind is playing tricks?

 

Probably not.
He made a fool of plenty that season.
