The Hard Truth - Ryan Sparks Interview

Ryan may only be a young lad to most of us, as well as being quite inexperienced but he comes over well and the thing I like about him is that for someone in the role he is in he doesn't talk in cliches.
Yes he will be ambitious but he can put down his marker in football admin while is with us and help us grow while making an impression within the game.

Very interesting podcast in which Ryan states his reasons for his decisions so far and also his vision for the future of Bradford City.

 

Good interview only thing I didn’t like about DMac was he seems a fan of the salary cap. DMac would probably get banned off here with the language he uses, certainly doesn’t beat around the bush

Didn’t get to listen to the last 20 minutes as I accidentally shut the app down and when I tried to get back to the same point it kept taking me back to the start so gave up, liked what I heard from Sparks though although I think he was only swearing to show off to DMac.

Very interesting hearing Sparks thoughts re manager. From listening to that, It sounds he’s got someone in mind who we’ve spoken to but won’t be available until the summer.

 

I didn’t get that impression

 

A lot of posters on here slagged off Sparks as a cheap compromise as CEO. This interview once again shows that he has a fresh and detailed vision for the club and its future. Name the last show runner who came in and did that? Of course time will tell, but I'd trust this guy in charge of my bacon and beans.

 

I get the feeling he only had his eyes opened to how lazy McCall was with training, analysis and recruitment when Trueman and Sellars (and then Turnbull) came in.

Given his relative lack of experience in football he maybe deserves a pass on that, but Julian Rhodes certainly doesn't.

It was also interesting to hear that we had someone doing the recruitment when Parkinson was here, who was that? I know we had Russ Richardson for a while, but thought he only stuck around for a few months.

 

Think you're dead right. Suspect Rhodes had no idea how good or bad McCall and Black's training and coaching regime was, because he didn't really ask or get involved. I don't think that will ever happen with Sparks. And that's a real upwards and onwards for us. Given all the much more up to date, involved coaching training T&S have been taught, bet they were shocked when they made the transition up from the youth teams at how loose, lax and lazy the preparations for pretty much everything were. It shows absolutely in how we're playing right now. It's really sad to say, but Stuart and Kenny were way past their sell by date as a management team. No attention to detail, no fresh ideas. Let's do the old show like we always have. But...big positives! We're moving forward with a new young management team and CEO who are looking to the future with new ideas.

 

What I thought was funny also was how DM was clearly testing to see if Sparks is a weak yes man.

 

Yep, I got the impression that Darragh got on with Sparks and he isn't one to suffer fools gladly.

Also pretty sure that when Sparks was talking about not signing certain players he was referring to Marcus Maddison

 

I liked how DMac advised him to stay off social media or at least be measured win or lose. He doesn’t go on until after the weekend. Whilst it’s good to hear from Sparks it might good to step back a bit now. I’d like us to go about our business quietly and see where we end up. It’s now about the team and managers.

 

Darragh was testing Sparks and at times Sparks didn't realise it. He wanted to see how we run because lets be honest no one really knows and wanted to find out what kind of man Sparks is.

So it seems clear that we will be younger players new contracts with the hope to sell them.
