The Final games (with Poll)

Discussion in 'City Talk' started by Bigrod, Mar 3, 2022.

?

How many points will City finish the season with?

  1. 40-43 (total collapse)

  2. 44-46 (clog dancing on the trap door)

  3. 47-49 (the straws may well be thick enough)

  4. 50-51 (skating on thin ice)

  5. 52-55 (gasping for breath, lifebuoy working)

  6. 56+ (No problem)

  7. 72 (Platinum chaos runs riot)

Here it is, the final 12 games. Win them al :)joy::joy:) and there is a slender chance of making the Play Offs!!!!!

Realistically we need to get 12 points to be absolutely safe. Can we do it?

Looking at that list, then give our disappointing form, then there are some daunting games. Thankfully we still have Scunthorpe and Carlisle to play at home. Possibly some points from the Newport and Vale home games. Then it becomes more difficult. Even Carlisle could be fighting for their league survival on the last day, so not a given 3 points.

We should be able to just get over the line. When Barnet were relegated in 2013 with the highest number of points (51), then at the corresponding number of games, they had 37 points. The biggest collapse was Bristol Rovers, relegated on 50 points in 2014. When they had played 34 games, they were ahead of us on 42 points, and 14th in the table, yet totally collapsed. A lesson there for us not to get complacent!

    The fixtures:
    • Mar 5, 2022 3:00 PM Bradford City FC - Swindon Town FC
    • Mar 12, 2022 3:00 PM Forest Green Rovers FC - Bradford City FC
    • Mar 15, 2022 7:45 PM Hartlepool United FC - Bradford City FC
    • Mar 19, 2022 3:00 PM Bradford City FC - Port Vale FC
    • Mar 26, 2022 3:00 PM Bradford City FC - Newport County AFC
    • Apr 2, 2022 3:00 PM Bristol Rovers FC - Bradford City FC
    • Apr 9, 2022 3:00 PM Northampton Town FC - Bradford City FC
    • Apr 15, 2022 3:00 PM Bradford City FC - Tranmere Rovers FC
    • Apr 18, 2022 3:00 PM Colchester United FC - Bradford City FC
    • Apr 23, 2022 3:00 PM Bradford City FC - Scunthorpe United FC
    • Apr 30, 2022 3:00 PM Sutton United FC - Bradford City FC
    • May 7, 2022 3:00 PM Bradford City FC - Carlisle United

12 points from our last 4 games… all the rest on paper look tough.

6 points less I'd have us at 50/50 to go down with 12 games to go. As it is I can see Hughes getting the points needed although another couple of poor results and we could be nervously looking over our shoulder.

All well and good but if we need 52 it means one of Carlisle or Scunny have got 20 points from 12 games. That's not going to happen. 46 will keep us up, and I reckon we will win on Saturday, draw at Forest Green and then pick up at least a point a match in the last 10.

We probably don’t need 52, but we are not doing very well!
    The form guide over the last twelve games is: Bradford P12 W3 D2 L7 F8 A17 -9 11 points @ 1.27 per game.
    It is verging on catastrophic over the last six: Bradford P6 W1 D0 L5 F2 A10 -8 3 points @ 0.5 a game.

    Why Carlisle?

They have 13 games left, are 19th, and have just won 2 in a row.

Stevenage look more likely to finish below Carlisle as it stands, with poor form and fewer games remaining.

The situation at the bottom is more fluid than you appear to think?

    15 points from remaining matches.

Will finish nearer to play offs than relegation.

Recently we've not done very well on long away trips so I'm discounting at least 3 of those 12, maybe 4 including Hartlepool.

We need 3 wins from the other 8. Mathematically we should manage it. We might need a few Hughes rants to get there though.

Ok, not Carlisle who I admit I hadn't realised had pulled up, but (as Paul weller would say) the bottom two will 'absolutely, categorically, f**King' not involve Bradford City. It will be two any of the teams from Leyton Orient downwards.

I would stake my life on us getting 50 points plus.

My concern would be going into the final half a dozen games needing points for safety with a squad half of which will be aware they are not going to be here next season.

IMPO we need to get the required points in the next 6 games arguably against the stronger opponents.

Hopefully the new manager factor and players wanting to impress will get us over the line. If the points don't come in that spell I am not sure how much up for the fight they will be in the final run in.

I’m still thinking returning players will get us across the line without too much late season anxiety.

i would suggest that 11 points from 12 matches comes in at 0.916 points per game instead of 1.27

So much so, I suspect he has a regular slot in The Sun on SUnbridge Road.

A point a match in the last ten, yet we’ve lost four in a row. I admire your optimism! I’m just hoping the new manager bounce, coupled with returning players, gets us over the line.
