There’s over 500,000 people in the Bradford district now. As a % of population you could argue we're underperforming.

Not this again. Historically we've never been a massively supported club. For a lot of the cities history we had two football clubs, couple this with major football cities being on our doorstep and having a.history of being a lower league football club and you can kinda tell why we don't have a bigger fan base. And a lot of that 500,000 talked about lives closer to other football clubs or has no historical ties to the city. I'd say the crowds we get now with the poor product on show is over achieving

I believe only 15 year ago it was around 300,000. So without turning this into a political immigration post I doubt we saw such a steep rise in population simply by local people having loads of kids otherwise a nationwide trend would now see Britain over 100 million. Most who immigrated here probably don’t even know Bradford has a football club.

Also the Bradford district covers are large area , football fans in keighley , Addingham, Silsden etc are just as likely to support Burnley, Leeds

I was intrigued by the suggestion that the population of the wider City of Bradford has grown by around 200,000 people in just 15 years, so looked up the data at the Office of National Statistics.
In 2019, the population was 539,776. In 2007 it was 501,357. So an increase of around 38,500. A big increase but nowhere near what has been suggested.
The figures would be different for the city itself, but the figures of 500k + are for the wider Metropolitan District, including Shipley, Keighley etc
I wonder if you have compared an older City only figure with the newer wider District figure?

Or Liverpool or Man City. A lot of people are very fickle glory hunters when it comes to football

I just went off that city vent podcast last week as they mentioned it, you’d have to ask them as I didn’t look it up just took them as they’d done research. I doubt it’s increased so little when it’s the fastest growing city outside London or so we’re told.

Folk have to remember that some of those postcodes within the metropolitan district are a long way from Valley Parade due to its location. Areas like Keighley and it's surrounds are nearly as close to Burnley and not that far from Manchester. Places like Baildon are literally on the doorstep of Leeds and as such have a big following of Leeds fans living there. Go up to South Bradford, traditionally a rugby area and on the outskirts you are touching Huddersfield town territory, you see a quite a bit of Town merchandise around there.

Well the ONS provide the definitive figures, they are best available. It seems the City Vent podcast didn't do their research.

I think I read that 25% of the population is under 18 too. Big opportunity for the club to tap into the youth market. The excellent social media work being done will help with that.

That is taking it a bit far. I have lived in Baildon and know that Hellend Road is a good 13+ miles away. It is only 4 miles to Valley Parade.
True there are a number of the deluded, much of that went back to the 1960/70’s when they were quite successful.

Read back what I said. Is Baildon not on the doorstep of Leeds? By your quote, without checking I expect Guiseley is closer to Valley Parade than Elland Road but would be pretty sure it's predominantly a Leeds supporting area. And if you live in Baildon why would you have any reason to go into Bradford? Your so close to Leeds why would you?

Having lived in Baildon, then I never ever felt it was on the ‘doorstep’ of Leeds.

Having worked in Guiseley for fifteen years I always noticed a good mix of Leeds and City fans, we also had and should reform the Guiseley based Airborough supporters branch.

Give your head a shake lad, Baildons a nice area. That area of the world going toward Leeds is really nice, quite desirable.

Depends which stats you use. The city if Bradford is about 260,000 but BMDC which includes Keighley, Bingley, Ilkley etc is, and pretty much always has been over half a million.

It's the Bmdc figure stats are quoting when they say Bradford is the sixth biggest city in the uk
