Drama on Netflix looking at the development of the game. The storyline is what it is. However the actors actually play the game in its embryonic form, and some of the characters were real people.

A significant amount of the outdoor scenes are shot in areas which I think most of you will recognise. The one I struggle with is the George Pub, anyone know where it is?

    Here is the link.

Both. A couple more locations as well. It is the external scene of the George Pub, not sure where that is?

There are a number of shots where the ‘Darwen’ team are discussing issues outside the pub, the name of it is the George (probably made up for the series). The shots suggest it is in a hilly area and the buildings are made of the Pennine Millstone Grit.

They filmed in Bolton as well so could be over there

Not with stone buildings. Also Bolton tends to be quite flat apart from up towards Turton and Bromley Cross. They did some of the Bank scenes in Liverpool.

Aerial photograph shows the red brick silhouette of the town.

The Old Etonians' style of play reminded me of games in the playground at Denholme Primary School in the early 1950's

Now when it came to games against Thornton, Cullingworth or Wilsden, then it was probably more akin to ‘blood sport’. ;)

I was quite impressed with it.. as a story , both for football and social history. It was amusing to see some of the current issues coming up again and again. Ignored fouls... transfer disputes and players wages .. violence on the terraces .. and the role of the WAG's . It was also amusing to see Blackburn's club sign .. in "Burnley" claret. ! We can't grasp the cultural shock of Mill/factory workers becoming over night stars in their communities. R

Watching this, and enjoying it.Its a cross between football history,a period drama, and the Fosdyke Saga, something for everyone, even Mrs OGF is watching it,and she has only been to VP once in over 50 years of married life.

Loosely. The story veers away from the true history for dramatic licence. The lead characters however are real.
