If you want to moan about the type of players we don’t have then suggest you use another thread. This is about looking at our squad, and working out a plan A and B, so that we can win games and stop the other team scoring. As much as I love it, the high pressing game we were playing appears to be found out. The long high ball up the field will not work as we don’t have the players to cope.

So this thread is about solutions for all you budding managers.

So we will start with Plymouth. We are told they are likely to polish off Fleetwood’s plan, therefore more of the same. How do we solve it.

I'll start. If he is over his injury I would bring Connor Wood back into left midfield. I don't think he is as talented as some of our other midfielders but is more naturally suited to the wide left role. I'll wait for the flack but I actually think Wood and Chicksen work quite well together down that side. Ball and Caddis can do the same on the right. Both the midfielders need to stick out wide to enable our full backs the option of the ball down the line (assuming O'Donnell actually gives them it quickly enough)

Nothing will be solved this season now. League 2, new players.... And mean the whole first team that we have are shown the door and a fresh!

And there's good chance of a new manager.
    Summer can't come quick enough.

I can't tell you how to solve it, or counteract it - but I would at least like to see them TRY something different rather than lumping it to no avail for 90 minutes.

Here's my stab in the dark.

If we haven't got any wingers (we haven't), and our pressing game has been found out (it has) and our midfield playmaker is being man marked (he is), then we've got to create some width from our full backs. Caddis can get up and down, as well as being able to put a cross in. Wood/Woods can do the same on the left. I would say it's better if they have someone to aim at up front, but we've only really got one striker who can supposedly head a ball. Try Miller up there with Doyle to get on the end of knockdowns. Or possibly even Ball, who likes to go out wide, so he could work and overlap with the fullbacks.
OB, Payne and Butterfield playing as a central three (Payne allowed to roam) with Akpan playing defensive mid, and feeding fullbacks either side of him.

Can't even say we could put three at the back, with the fullbacks pushing up, because we don't have another "central" defender. What was that thing about a transfer window happening in January?

    Doyle Miller/Ball
    OB Payne Butterfield
    Akpan
    Wood NKP OConnor Caddis

Now I'm beginning to understand Hopkins problem. However - this could have been addressed last month.

Play 4-1-3-2 rather than 4-2-3-1 give the centre halfs of the oppostion 2 strikers to deal with rather than 1 as it's easy pickings. That would leave space for the midfield im as one of the opposition midfielders would need to drop further to help out leaving said space for us to exploit.

I can see that. Who would be your first choices for the 1 and the 3?

Tallinbantams reply to OP pretty much sums it up.Lack of wingers doesn't help but we are deficient in having a target man who can hold the ball up and be proficient at heading a ball.

Having wingers putting crosses in for diminutive strikers is just hit and hope.More likely a defender heading an own goal than one of our strikers scoring.

Tactics are devised to keep the other team guessing. If you limit what you can do due to deficiencies, then it's easier to work out what you can do and stop us like Fleetwood did.

my question to you is, why as David Hopkin never changed or adapted within games? Especially within games we should be at least getting a point from. His tactics have cost us a lot of points this season

Payne and Ball must be close to each other, on the same line, directly behind the striker.

Play a midfield of Wood - Butterfield - Mellor.

A back four of Chicksen NKP P O'connor Caddis

Alternate between Doyle and Miller up front.

Much more responsibility on Caddis (right) Chicksen (left) and Butterfield (centre) coming to get the ball. If they're well marked, Mellor and Wood must be in position ready to show, and if that fails, O'Donnell must look long and Payne and Ball should be forming a front three with Doyle, right there ready to pick a second ball or on the shoulder of the last man waiting for errors.

Ie, every single player must always have a role and be accountable.

If O'D has no options, players are failing the fundamentals.
