It is Sunderland versus Newcastle United's under-21s in the third round of the Checkatrade Trophy.

The derby game is the first meeting between the two sides since 2016 but with Sunderland's first team taking on Newcastle's youngsters it has a distinctly different feel to it this time out.

Around 17,000 tickets had been sold before the game and there was expected to be a sizeable contingent from Tyneside at the match as the game attracts plenty of interest from North East football fans.

Jack Ross says he will change his side - although competition rules state he can't make too many changes - while Rafa Benitez says it's unlikely he'll send fringe men to help out Ben Dawson's under-21s.

Well never hear the last of it from Shaun Harvey, great crowd at the Stadium of Light, they could hang 11 Sunderland and 11 Newcastle shirts on a washing line and 20,000 would turn up to watch then dry.

    Finished Sunderland U21 4 - 0 Newcastle United U21.

Considering we had 1 player from our best XI, an average squad age of 22 and the 2 youngest players on the pitch, we played really well and it was a very enjoyable 2nd half. Atmosphere was brilliant, much better than I expected it to be. Of course there was going to be piss taking from them about how low we've dropped to now be playing their u21's but the Newcastle fans made idiots out themselves given that it was a game they 'didnt care about': ripping out seats, throwing firecrackers onto the stand below them inside the stadium and throwing them at horses outside the stadium to loud cheers from other mags.

4-0. Easy. The youngest player on the pitch got MOTM and he was ours. feck the mags. We all hate them, don't we @Bronco@Bronco?;)

No mate "we all f*****g hate Leeds" ;).

At Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup the other season at half time Chelsea Football Club made a donation ( Bradford Burns Unit) ? and had Chopper Harris, the Cat Bonetti and I think it was Tambling, after the presentation the three walked around the perimeter of the pitch whilst showing the 1970 Cup Final reply against Leeds on the big screen, as they got to our end all 6,000 City fans started singing "we all f*****g hateLeeds and all the Chelsea fans joined in even Harris was conducting the singing, a great day out in the smoke :).

The single greatest FA Cup Final. Also the save that is voted as the best ever save in an FA Cup Final at 2:08.

    We all hate Leeds.

Were you around at the time ?.

You have to smile when Vic Halom takes David Harvey out and he picks himself up places the ball where he was fouled and takes the free kick, no chasing Halom to complain about the challenge, good old fashioned football give it and take it, not like the pussys now a days rolling about like they'd been pole axed.

Unfortunately not. I'm only in my early 20's. We'll win it again though. Keep the faith.
