Sunderland v Marseille at Valley Parade - Sat 3 August 2024

A bit random that.

 

I'm absolutely thrilled by this. As my username hints, I am a big fan of Payet and so seeing Marseille will be fun and my mams a Mackam!

Although watching Sunderland twice just days apart is gonna be a task as they're a boring side.

 

Shouldn’t we be saving the pitch for our games so come jan/feb it doesn’t resemble someone’s allotment for the last 3 months

 

Potential money spinner for the club? If so why not?

 

They are doing work on the stadium so it almost certainly won't be ready for 3rd August, we are probably the closest that will agree to it and already a conversation open so made sense for both. We will get a set fee or a % of ticket sales or a combination of both. It will make the catering company happy as well with another game for them.

Having links to clubs like Sunderland should be used as a benefit for on the pitch as well, if Sunderland are sending players out on loan at our level then surely we should have a lot in our favour to get the deal over the line. Purely speculating, but maybe it could be Sunderland that we are waiting on for the loan player and hosting this game got the deal over the line.

 

They have some cracking young players too. Their model is to sign youngsters with potential and we could benefit massively

 

An extra friendly in August won’t harm the pitch and it could do a lot of good in terms of future links to Sunderland.

 

I seem to recall us being linked with a young LWB earlier in the summer?

 

Great for the pubs on North Parade with thousands of thirsty mackems

 

A return to Bradford for Mason Greenwood?

 

For the money??

 

Mental those mackems. They’ll fill most of the Kop and Main stand, surely. They’ll drink the taps dry as they usually do and it’ll be a nice little money spinner. Ha’way

 

We are probably the closest that's available and at the size they need. Looking at others near by:

• Newcastle - no chance
• Middlesbrough - got a game that day
• Darlington Arena - rugby season doesn't start until September so unlikely pitch is ready and it may not have the safety certificate for a game at the level the attendance will be
• Hartlepool - probably too small and already have a game
• Leeds - got a game that day
• Huddersfield - looks available
• Hull - Hull FC rugby play at home that day

 

I’ll be there if City fans can buy tickets, not often you get a chance to see a team like Marseille live.

Funny our pitch last season was slated and now after being relaid we’ve got a decent friendly to watch on our door step.

our own fans never sell out friendlies so makes sense to pimp out VP.

my lad hates coming City but was excited Marseille were in town. I thought it was a typo on the news release!
