Those C&B regulars who read my posts will probably have realised that I have a bad case of the statistics; the condition is, I'm afraid, incurable...:D Seeing as I'd been tracking City in this way on C&B, I thought to bring the thread over here now, in summary form, and so carry on to the season's finish.

In brief: I break each season down into 10-game segments, and compare these to previous seasons, especially promotion or relegation seasons, to track progress (in either direction).

We had been doing well through the first 20 games, keeping on track for playoff positions and even automatic promotion. Then it went downhill. Warning signs were always there, e.g. with our inability to gain points from losing positions; we then started conceding goals at an alarming rate, and now in the last segment we stopped scoring as well.

    1st 10: 6-2-2, 16-12, 20
    2nd 10: 5-1-4, 13-10, 16
    3rd 10: 4-0-6, 15-23, 12
    4th 10: 1-3-6, 5-16, 6

And so we end up as we are now, on course for 62 points and a mid-table finish.

Another way to look at things is to compare the records pre- and post-Yeovil, seeing as, for whatever reason, that is when our already wonky form disappeared completely.

    1st 26: 15-3-8, 42-34, 48 (playoff certainties, automatic promotion possibles)
next 14: 1-3-10, 7-27, 6 (relegation certainties, with an embarrassingly bad record to boot)

63 points and mid-table. Season 2017/8, goodbye and good riddance!

    10-game segments:

    1st 10: 6-2-2, 16-12, 20
    2nd 10: 5-1-4, 13-10, 16
    3rd 10: 4-0-6, 15-23, 12
    4th 10: 1-3-6, 5-16, 6
last 6: 2-3-1, 8-6, 9 (At least we tightened up defensively; inability to score still a problem)

    Pre- and Post-Yeovil:

    1st 26: 15-3-8, 42-34, 48 (playoff certainties, automatic promotion possibles)
    last 20: 3-6-11, 15-33, 15 (relegation certainties)

    Managers:

    McCall: 15-3-13, 45-47, 48
    interim: 0-1-0, 2-2, 1
    Grayson: 3-5-6, 10-18, 14

One of those seasons that started out so promisingly, and ended up a disappointment. We continue to have problems scoring, but this season's 57 goals was consistent with the 57, 55, 55, and 62 of our previous four League 1 seasons. Allowing 67 goals, however, compared to 54, 55, 40, and 43, was damaging.
