Can we introduce some kind of 'council points' system for sh*t like this. Basically everyone has a council card and the more points you have the more the state give to you. The more you behave and contribute to the community the more you get. You lose points for being a nob and get less. Who's with me?

I've watched the first two series. Has this idea come up subsequently. The social media points episode is a similar concept. Looks like the Chinese have the right idea! However, social status would not come into it. It would be based purely on behavior and values of being a 'good citizen'. Furthermore it would not be punitive, merely bad citizens would miss out on state benefits.

I don’t know if this is the place to have this debate but why would it be a good idea to make this people miss out on state benefits to punish bad behaviour?

Would help no one and only turn them to crime if they are not already. And can they ever then get back to having state benefits again if they have a wrong turn in their life?

Let’s say someone has a bereavement and goes off the rails. Maybe drink drives or has a fight on a night out as a result of the trauma and ends up arrested and losing points on this system. They are then out of work but can’t claim benefits because they are now below the threshold, what then? They have no way of turning it around and you may have lost them forever.

It’s not for me and would only have a detrimental effect.

Is this what the court system is for? If you break the law you get fined etc?

I would make the benefits system far more rewarding. I'm not talking about depriving people of their basic human necessities but I would have a far more advantageous package for people who have a clean record, carry out voluntary work, take part in electoral opportunities, have children with good behaviour and attendance at school. I would avoid punitive measures and put more positive opportunities in place.

Why target people on benefits? Just sounds like further demonisation of those living in poverty.

Since I changed careers, I've taught in some of the most deprived areas of Greater Manchester: Gorton, Moston, Adswood. It is not just a few, there are so many children growing up in poverty. Real poverty, they are not eating except in school. In one school I used to take in two loaves of fruit bread every morning, just to make sure they weren't hungry before their learning.

You are right to ask questions and make suggestions. We can do better for people in this country and to create an infrastructure and society where people both want to, and are able to, take responsibility.

I do like the idea of encouraging local communities to look after each other.
