Should only be allowed to deal with the commercial side of the club from now on, leave footballing decisions to someone who knows what they’re doing.

Sparks is as good as anyone we are likely to get and better than most. I think most have no quibble with the way the club is being run off the pitch.
His managerial appointments? He got Adams, who was the popular choice at the time given his track record with Morecambe, and when he left we got Hughes and nobody could believe we could attract someone with that background.
He's now done what people were wanting him to do in sacking Hughes in pretty short order.

Go tempt Stevenage DoF Leon Hunter up here and tell him to bring his manager with him.
Sparks can then concentrate on marketing and the commercial side of things, which he clearly does a good job of.vanginger, NorthernMonkey, The Evidence and 2 others like this. -
If you think Rupp is not a good owner, you clearly have no memory of some of the past ones we have had.
We are not in danger of going bankrupt and we have a competitive playing budget. That puts him in the top tier of ownership as far as Bradford City goes.Johnny Yen, Inspector, Two Legs and 2 others like this. -

Nope.
Did I deny that I would have employed Hughes?
Nope.
So what am I unhappy about?
Here's your laundry list of nightly reading:
- The farcical end of McCall's tenure (giving him an extension that immediately firing him)
- The farcical end to T&S' tenure (to the point where one of them was so upset they left the club, and I couldn't blame them)
- The appointment of Adams (which was a ridiculous appointment of a man who could not be further from being a 'Bradford City' man)
- The failure to put in a 'footballing man' to whom all of the above plus Mark Hughes could have liaised with, shared ideas with, and ultimately answered to
- The blind assumption that we don't actually need footballing experts at a football club thus ensuring no success can be achieved
Now it's not Sparks' job to appoint someone adjacent to himself, but it's his job to explain to the owner that he needs to make changes to the football club, so it's either Sparks hasn't tried or Rupp is totally inept, either or.
Whatever the answer: Sparks being in control of on-pitch issues is not working.
Let me clarify: I'm not saying fire Sparks, Sparks can remain at the club in perpetuity, but in terms of on-pitch success? That has to come to an end unless he's able to turn a corner very, very soon. Just as he judges the managers he employs, so shall his own performance be judged.King Cole, The Original EB, Bantamsteve and 2 others like this. -
Think the critisim of Sparks is a little over the top as who else would bring the match ball on the pitch with a remote controlled car.cut him some slack

What’s this unique magic power that Evans possesses that makes people claim he would guarantee promotion.
Lots of claims by people that he would definitely get us promoted.
Admittedly he’s had successes(at Crawley and Rotherham he spent plenty)
But he’s had some dismal failures as well.
Can’t stand the man and his perennially arms out little cry baby assistant Raynor but according to some on here he guarantees promotion so I’ll ignore my hatred and welcome him with open arms (Raynoresque) and look forward to the open top bus when the inevitable promotion follows.
Can somebody just let Ryan know now so we don’t have to stay in the arse end of league football for much longer.
I know he’s not coming btw but my main point is I didn’t realise that appointing a lower league football manager could be so surefire.ahar964, Hampshire Bantam, vladimir and 2 others like this. -
Why one more chance? Seriously, why?
Sparks just isn’t getting it. Blame all the managers you want. Do you trust him to make the right decision? I don’t.

And no, they don't have to be an all-rounder.
In fact, it would be better if they weren't an all-rounder, and accepted their obvious limitations and appointed people appropriately.bantam2708, WilsdenBantam, Super bantams and 1 other person like this. -

I'm a defender of Sparks, but there is something in this. Did we establish what kind of footie Hughes would play before appointing him or just get all dewy eyed when he approached us?
Likewise, we know what style Adams played. Plymouth fans stomached it, because it was a big improvement on their previous half a dozen seasons. Remember we could have had Daryl Clarke (who we've missed out on again) instead of Adams. Now both are good L2 managers - but Clarke gets the big club mentality far more than Adams does and is still affectionally talked about at both Bristol Rovers and Port Vale.Bronco, Hulmebantam, WilsdenBantam and 1 other person like this. -

This is all down to Rupp. He hires the CEO so unless HE thinks Sparks is doing a bad job, it's a mute point. From the outside I can't see Sparks admitting he's wrong, by bringing someone in who would effectively have the best role at the club.
Consider this. Sparks leaves, half his commercial team leave, either to take up new roles or in support. The Manager has just been sacked, the Assistant Manager has been sacked, Trueman and Macdonald are in temporary charge. The owner lives in Germany and we're 18th in league 2. That scenario has all the hallmarks of a Rhodes return and we all know what that brings. That's a massive gamble for an owner who's quite happy to bob over from Germany 4 times a year. Unless he's going to oversee the whole process and spend the next 4 - 6 months in the UK, I can't see that happening.
The only way this works in the long term, is for Rupp to sell up and the new owners bring in their own personnel, but that takes time and on evidence, there's more chance of that going wrong than working out. For now, Rupp has to insist on a DoF or consultant to oversee the appointment of our next manager. Someone who leaves a blueprint for Sparks to work to, because for all his lack of experience, Sparks is doing a good job in everything but the most important part of a being a CEO, the playing side.Onside, vladimir, Fordy117 and 1 other person like this. -
