I think he has been taking a bit of vitriol on social media and he has held his hand up (excuse the pun) and apologised.
I don’t think he needed to do that because I don’t think many have given more for the cause than him in recent weeks. No one is immune from mistakes and I think he will bounce back with the rest of them up at Carlisle

Professional footballers SHOULD NOT be active on social media. Especially Twitter.

Not saying he shouldn’t apologise but BECAUSE of Twitter....no chance!

I think there were a couple of idiots that tagged him in tweets but the response I think shows what we all think of his performances recently.

Holy crap, I've seen some threads wonder off topic in just a few pages, but this has to be a new record.

What the hell does any of this have to do with Levi Sutton??

Anyway, very promising, genuine young player who only the deranged would hassle based on one mistake.

    Idiots getting ahead of themselves.

I feel sorry for Sutton and hope these twits don't dent his confidence.

I've had another look at the penalty incident and it's clear that the ball hit his arm because he pushed the Newport player who was blocking him. He couldn't get out of its trajectory.

So....either a penalty for pushing the player or a penalty for handball?..;)

Thankfully the tweets supporting him far outnumber the idiots spouting complete nonsense.

If a penalty was given for every push these days there would be one given at almost all corner kicks.
Holding and blocking has changed defending in modern times.

You twitter twatters whoever you are , please refrain from 'supporting' our great team. Sutton has showed he's worthy of the shirt and you're not. Simple. As.

To be fair, it doesn't matter if the player is absolutely terrible and not worthy of the shirt due to lack of effort, write your opinions if you like, shout/chant them at a game if you must, but trying to directly contact people outside of the game is for colossal idiots.

Just because it's easy to do in the age of social media doesn't justify it. If you aren't prepared to knock on a player's door to give them grief, don't do it online.

    Pretty simple, really.

Criticism is one thing abuse is another and it’s a fine line between unfortunately social media and in particular Twitter gives a platform to people who shouldn’t be entitled to free speech

Sadly, that concept is lost on people. Social Media is a menace in society. It’s very damaging to the psychological well being of the human race.

If I were a footballer, or anyone else in a position of prominence, I don’t for one second think I’d use twitter.

Its awful. It was really affecting my mental health (twitter and Facebook) making me angry and I don't know why, so I came off both last August and haven't gone back.

Unfortunately there's an awful lot of value that can be attached to an athlete's social media presence - some sponsorships will only be given if an athlete has 'x' number of followers and engagements-per-post, a player's profile and popularity can be readily judged by any interested party (including clubs, managers, agents, etc) based on their social media presence, etc.

Obviously there's a balance to be struck as to whether it's worthwhile for a player who's getting paid enough to not need sponsorships and whether it serves to advance their career or not, but my opinion is the social media platforms only benefit from having athletes being honest about themselves on social media and establishing connections with real users THEREFORE, those platforms really need to take better care of athletes and celebrities. In fact, better care of all users, as straight up abuse really doesn't have a place anywhere at all.

Thats a damning view of the correlation between the rise in social media use and the sky rocketing of suicide rates.

The lack of intelligence of the human race has always been there, these social media platforms unfortunately give them a voice that before that thankfully had little chance of being heard. If people understood the real reasons behind these massive platforms, that they are merely revenue raisers for their rich investors, then it might make them think twice about ussing them. But i doubt it, these platforms work on the same parts of the brain that affect addicts, it becomes a part of peoples lives that they can't let go.

Have you watched The Social Dilemma? A very insightful watch. One of the former tech bigwigs at either Facebook or Twitter (I can't remember which) made exactly that point. Users of these platforms aren't the customer for those companies. The customer value is in the advertising and media content. That's entirely why they're free to use for individual consumers.
