It also annoys me how we bring every player back for a corner

 

Because MH has not accepted the difference between the PL and League two

 

I didn't say two on the halfway line just one quickie like Eisa or Nevers, one quickie would mean two of the opposition players would be on the halfway line as they wouldn't leave it one on one.
So the opposition have one taking the corner two on the halfway line that leaves 7 at best in the box, I'm still baffled why we'd need all ten outfield players plus a goalkeeper who should be capable of taking/punching the corner if it was anywhere in his area.
So 11 against 7 seems overkill to me and could get in the way of one of our players trying to win the header.

Last night there goalie took possession of the ball on the half way line after one of our corners. Can’t believe we don’t leave at least one player in the centre circle when defending any set pieces, it’s so bloody obvious that you should do this

 

The 2 bigger issues for me are that,

a) we don't leave a player on the edge so even if we win the first ball, unless the ball goes out of play it invariably comes straight back into the box for us to defend again.

b) we defend only across the 6 yard box so anything deeper is pretty much a free header back across or straight at goal. It happened 3 or 4 times against Stockport (as it has all season) and we were lucky not to concede.

 

So you have all 10 of your outfield players zonal marking 6/7 opposition players, how's that work?.

 

Well I find that amazing, one on each post and for a short corner I can understand, but the other 8 marking areas no one would be attacking as at best the opposition would leave two men on the half way line although I'm not sure why as we never have a player just inside our half to take and clearance we make, what ever happened to players taking responsibility with regards marking their designated opposition player.
I much prefer a quick lad just inside our half for the clearance and also pull two of the oppositions defender out, but thanks for the reply.

 

Used to be the norm putting a speedy lad at halfway whilst defending a corner usually a small lad who couldn't defend headers

 

You don't think we're vulnerable from corners and set pieces?

 

Maybe not but we'd be close in lots of games and multiple times I'd discussed with the group I go with that we'd been fortunate.

Not having a player or even two on the edge of the box is coaching suicide though imo. We have to defend at least 20 to 30% more crosses simply because we don't have anyone to either pick up, or at least pressurise second balls into the box

How many corners have we scored this year? Certainly less than we've conceded I'd guess?

 

It's not just about the counter attack though. Having a player on the edge of the box and on the half way line means that once the ball is initially cleared we have a chance of retaining possession and alleviating the pressure. Failing that though, those players can at least put pressure on the ball rather than allowing the opposition time and space to deliver another decent ball back into our penalty area.

 

I have no issue playing it out from the back from a goal kick if there is a plan to progress the ball forward but considering we’ve done it all season we still look totally lost when the CB receives the ball.

when done correctly it can be effective, even at this level, but so far MH doesn’t seem to have drilled in any patterns of play for how to get the ball from the CBs into the opposition half. That’s the issue for me.

Without doubt the majority of teams do it so there must have been some thought given to it by the stat guys, not sure the Nhaki Wells type left just inside his own half would only occupy the one defender I believe many times in the past Parky used Nhaki in that role little point in having him in or around the box as defending wasn't his strongest point, so using him as an out ball was hardly doing nothing it give us a chance to win that ball as @NorthernMonkey says in our present situation no one outside the box usually means the ball is put back into the danger area, I'd say someone like Nevers or Esia would have two defenders along side him the opposing manager wouldn't risk a one on one IMO.

That's the way our manager prefers to play, simple as that.

 

Fear of losing the ball and it coming right back at us.
