It's a consequence of the desperation to get the game on that they tried to give it every chance to be on even if it was always looking very unlikely. If there is a lot of rain over the next 10 days I'd worry for the National League play offs as the 4 teams chasing the last 2 play off spots were due to play each other tonight/tomorrow and all have been postponed with only the Thursday before the end of the season left available in the schedule.

There’s more to it than that. The key issue is that Oldham travel in numbers and Police arrangements would have to be changed. I was talking to Fax owner David Bosomworth yesterday who said the Police were being very cautious. As to the pitch Fax RL have had four Challenge Cup games at home before the season start which has had an impact especially with the amount of rain. David wasn’t holding out much hope of an alternative ground.

Sounds like they've not been able to find an alternative venue so will be rearranged for another date, if they can't get in all agreed with Oldham/league/police to be played on Thursday then surely the only option will be a week on Thursday . https://fchalifaxtown.com/news/oldham-athletic-game-update/

There's surely got to be a real worry about their ability to finish the season and if the pitch can recover in time for Saturday's home game. If that is

is it just me or are the efl (and non leagues) not really helping themselves with these early finishes to seasons.

It isnt too long ago that regular last day of the season was pushing towards mid may and now some leagues finish as early as 20th April, even ours appears early being on the 27th April.

Balls to the Summer tournaments we have these days, it wont affect sides in leagues one and two, plan the season better and get it back open for a couple of weeks in May. Failing that, alter the league cup or scrap the silly group games in the EFL trophy and there are 3 weeks there that can be used for regular league fixtures whilst the weather is "better"

The Champions League final being at Wembley has impacted the whole EFL and National League calendar and pushed everything back by a week. Lower down in non-league they always try to finish in April if possible as it's better for the clubs with player contracts as they can finish them in April rather than May.
For the EFL they need to be able to fit in 3 play off finals which they would normally be able to fit on the 2nd May bank holiday weekend but that isn't possible with the FA Cup final on the Saturday of that weekend which could be a huge issue for the EFL if Coventry get to the FA Cup final and the play offs. From this they had to decide if they split the play off finals 2 and 1 or 1 and 2 over weekend of 18/19 and 25/26, UEFA will have a part to play in that as i think they want control of the stadium around 5 days before the match. The National League have to fit in their play offs plus the FA Trophy & Vase final, because of the good chance of an overlap between the play off & final teams they've got to put them on seperate weekends. You can have the finals in the middle of the play offs so the play offs have to be first. Added to that Wembley have to fit in the Women's FA Cup final and the international window for the Euros shortly after the Champions League final it makes everything very condensed with 9 games over 7 weekends to fit in before the england game on 7th June.

That sums up the pressure well. I guess the issue is a venue like Wembley actually necessary for the Play Off Finals, or could it go to one of the larger Premiership venues.

The FA want all finals regardless of which league or cup, played at Wembley because of the money they spent on it.
I think something will have to give here because the reality is that the weather isn't suddenly going to improve to allow the backlog of fixtures across the leagues to be fulfilled by the end of the respective league seasons.
In my opinion, with global warming meaning wetter winters, this problem isn't going to go away. Some serious consideration needs to be given to how to address the problem. Be it moving the season to the summer, allowing 5G pitches to be used or giving grants to clubs to upgrade their pitches.

It's really bizarre that L2 & NL end so early when the PL goes on to 19th May, despite the Euros being this summer.

And then after that you've got concerts going on there with Taylor Swift doing 8 days there. 80% of the house value is probably in the drive alone

They've changed their game on Saturday against Barnet and Ebbsfleet United on Tuesday to be played at Accrington Stanley. No news on their match against Oldham yet. A nice bit of money for Accrington.

I think the contract between the EFL and Wembley ends soon for the finals so hopefully they look elsewhere, or at least get some dates set in stone and if Wembley want to agree then they can not take on other stuff for those dates.

Yeah we had 25k they had 4k or something , it was a weird atmosphere -- having a ground that close to the big shopping mall was mildly amusing though with the 'lively ' fans in the pubs and restaurants there .

I remember at the time there were a lot of Northern teams in the play-offs so people argued a northen/midlands stadium would have been better but I assume it's all pre arranged .
