Let’s not beat about the bush but how many of our first team squad are good enough to be part of a successful team THIS season ?

So in order to survive we need 8 new players in January? Hope the opposition are struggling as well, and the biggest slice of luck imaginable?

I mean, you could build around Payne, I guess, but you'd have to play something like a 3-4-3 and use Payne as just one of two attacking midfielders/forwards either side of a very talented striker.

If you're not going to actually do something like that, Payne is out for me.

So I'd say Scannell (if a squad player, not a key player), O'Donnell, and Jim O'Brien (though his introduction into a god awful side may have made a pretty average player look amazing).

I'd still keep the likes of O'Connor, Doyle, Miller, and perhaps Mellor, but I'm not sure they're promotion chasers.

As for Akpan, I'm not sure successive relegations haven't ruined him.

Can't keep Mellor, he's been bloody awful all season. His defending is woeful, back off, back off, back off doesn't put a tackle in. F A Level 2 Course says close people down as quick as you can, not run away and allow them to get crosses in. Worst right back for years and people wanted rid of McMahon...

O'Donnell Wood who improves every game for me both O'briens and Payne shame 2 of those aren't even ours. Then only Young Gibson Goldthorp both inexperienced i know but deserve a chance to shine and Robinson if we ever see him again The rest aren't fit to wear the shirt

In terms of what's needed in January, as a minimum:

    2 centre backs.
    2 centre midfielders.
    A striker. Maybe 2.

A spine, basically. We don't have one right now.

5 or 6 quality players. Experienced, and quality. That's something that a properly organised, well run and well funded, attractive club would struggle to do. We have no chance.

    January won't save us.

We're f*cked. We need to focus on the bigger, more important task of running Rahic out of town and doing all we can to force a sale to the rumoured interested parties waiting in the wings. Or even organise as a group to seek willing buyers ourselves.

It’s really hypothetical since we will never have a successful team with the present ownership. However Doyle, the two O’briens And Payne would be useful under new ownership.
Another way of reflecting how poor we have become :
How many of the current crop of players would even make the subs bench with the team that lost against Millwall at Wembley ?
We are a fickle lot really. It was only last season that Law was booed of as he was subbed during one match. Vicelot was regarded as rubbish yet had scored 5 goals coming up from the deep. Reeve was booed off when subbed. Billy Clarke was said to be not effective any more. People moaned about the long ball tactic with Hanson etc.
I for one would gladly have all that back and never complain again !

Three, possible four. we are ready for league two if don't have a clear out. But, our leader and head of recruitment will have different ideas and get a load of conference players in. get ready for oblivion at this rate.

4 players needed for me, then if we trim the squad a little then maybe one or two more utlility players.

I'd go for a Center back possibly 2 if available - imposing one who wins the aerial battles. Not easy to come by but one we can look to train into a way to play, shifting it onto a midfielder or the other CB who can play. We do not win enough headers and its showing

Left winger - Clear Hopkin wants to play with two wide men and Payne just isn't that. Really not sure what the recruitment side were doing when they didnt get one in the summer, We barely had one last year. Robinson was a makeshift one

Center forward - Strong and one who can hold it up. Doesnt have to be a big lump, someone in the Jon Stead mould would be perfect. He can take the pressure off and that means we can get up the pitch then.

Center midfielder - One whos good on the ball. One who will drop and ask for it from the defence. Reeves was decent at this but is always injured. Law was good previously

This is it for me. We have no guarantees that there will be any extra cash in January to get some quality through the door. It is also an expensive window. It might come under the catagory too little too late.

We have had nothing to say there won’t be any cash either.

Hopkin seems to be getting on with it as per his interviews so he must know what he’s got to work with

Success as in not being relegated or as in getting promoted?

I believe we have enough to not be relegated so for a play off place I'd say O'Donnel, Wood, Payne, Jnr O'b, possibly Snr O'b and Doyle. Think under new management Akpan, Colville and Reeves have all the ability to do a job for us.

I worry about how new signings will view the prospect of joining a club in turmoil. Will we fail because players won't want to join us?

No. We'll fail because of Edin Rahic.

I agree with most of that @Louise Leach but the idea should be that when you let these type of players go the replacement is better, and we have been badly let down with regards players signings.
