Knew him from my bookie days, came quite buddy even though he was much older. Always a character, loud and brash and known by everyone.
Took him to a few away games, what must be lates 00's.
A few standouts were him getting stuck in the turnstyle at crewe, a bit of frantic pushing and pulling ended with us freeing him and him entering in fire exit.
Then an eventful night in mansfield, awful game think we may have missed a pen and drew or got beat. Anyway it was nightgame in winter so was quite dark when we set off. my brother was asleep across the back seat for some reason and it transpired sammy hadnt seen him or noticed him until 10 miles outside of mansfield when our kid sat upand asked if we were there yet, well poor sammy shit himself and let out a shreak i ended up nearly veering into the central reservation. He was shaking the rest of the journey bless him. On the way back he asked me to pull in the services so he could pee, i parks up right by the front so he didnt have to walk far with his sticks, no not sammy decided to open and piss at the side of the car in full view of everyone .

I recall being stood next to him one time at somewhere like Gay Meadow in the 80's.
Lots of colourful patois muttering when City weren't doing very well.
Then he pulled out a Tupperware container at half time, don't know what he was eating but it didn't look very appetising.
Could always be relied on for score updates though, home or away he'd be there with his radio.
A proper character and die hard City (and almost any other Bradford sport you could name) fan, he'll be missed.

Remember him well big " ghetto blaster" on his shoulder telling fans the other football results, the batteries must have cost him a fortune back then.

Seeing him with his ghetto blaster was one of my earliest memories of watching City. It didn’t seem right when he got a bit older and got a Walkman.

35 years my time watching City spans, and back in the day I couldn't get enough of it, but unfortunately recently that has dwindled, but a handful of amazing characters stand out during this period with Sammy being right up there, always sat at the back of the away coaches with his radio to ear calling scores out on way home or walking away from VP. Great memories of the big man, big loss.
