Russia report

Theres nothing really exciting in it. I was expecting some big revelations and really it's nothing more than Russia has people tweeting propaganda and wants to influence the west. We didn't really need a report to figure that out.

Bit of a damp squib after all the build up.

I'm more concerned about the supressed report on the dirty filthy Asian grooming gangs .

 

A man who barely speaks Russian and with no real knowledge of Russian business practice moves there to set up an airline' in the middle of nowhere.

Unsurprisingly it's not a success but despite that when he returns home he's somehow, out of the blue, managed to make a number of high level important contacts in Putin's regime.

He then gets himself employed in the British government, despite failing his Civil Service entry exams. Once there he works his way up so he's effectively running the country.

Now he has managed to short circuit the usual rigorous process to gain top security clearance and is about to embark on visits to our most secret and secure military sites. He also plans to strip back our defence capability.

Good plot for a le Carre novel? No, the reality of Dominic Cummings.

If you're not worried you haven't been paying attention.

 

Of course there's nothing really exciting in it. The government has gone out of its way to avoid investigating any of the links - like the hordes of Putin-connected Russian oligarchs in London pouring money into the Tory Party. Of course the Government found no evidence of deliberate Russian interference in our democracy when they've deliberately and persistently avoided looking for it.

 

That's a bit of a misnomer though isn't it. Nobody used that reason before the report was published and they set up a report specifically to investigate it. It's just a little bit like clutching at straws.

I wonder if the Government would be criticised for avoiding searches or American, French, German, Chinese, Saudi, (etc, etc) as well, every country in the world is trying to influence others not just Big Bad Russia.

I have no ax to grind with the report. I was genuinely interested to see what they found wither way but it seems like to people who pinned their hopes on some unscrupulous Russian link being outed as the reason for Brexit, Independence Referendum and the last general election and nailed their colours to the mast that this was definitely been kicked down the street until everything was over have been disappointed. The report could have been released at any point in the past and not made an iota of difference.

 

The report could not have been released at any point because there are plenty of redactions/asterisks in it.
Meaning the plebs are not meant to find out what has been going on.

Comrade boris, comrade cummings and his brother in law spent some time in russia and ukraine.

After all the dirty goings on and anti British activity within the Labour party and the unions over the last 50 years or so and you're concerned over Cummings....??

 

Damn, I really thought they were going to spill the beans on every classified conversation like it was celebrity tabloid tittle tattle.

Its confirmation bias. People who were expecting big things are now coming up with conspiracies about why there were no big things in there.

It's what I hate about politics, 99% of things are entrenched and determined by the personalities involved rather than what is actually presented.

 

You're completely missing the point. The committee presenting the report yesterday very specifically highlighted that, despite various obvious pointers that don't apply to other countries, the reason there's no firm evidence either way is because the government has deliberately avoided looking for them.

 

Cummings is a far bigger threat to our democracy than anything the Labour Party has done. The LP is not, and never has been, anti British. That's just your cold war commie paranoia speaking.

 

They did. I suppose they have to justify their non-report somehow though.

And if they felt strongly about that they should have focused a lot more of the report on it rather than it being a bit of a throw away line in the press conference.

As it is the report itself is a complete waste of time and energy.
