When he was signed on loan in January T&S said they had watched him from his time as a youth player and knew his strengths. Mark Trueman told journalists " He is fast and direct with an eye for goal, which are all things we are desperate to bring to this side."

Now that Hornby is playing the McArdle" hoofball" I wonder why Burrell hasn't been given an opportunity? After all it worked for Parky with Hanson and Wells.

The reason Championship and PL clubs loan players is to give them the experience of competitive matches not to spend their time training and learning from lower league players.

Apparently not doing enough in training to warrant a place in the matchday squad.

heard the same Keefly - but that does raise the question of 'bringing the right sort of player in'. I guess to be fair he was a squad replacement for Samuels

It's beyond me why we signed him. Hot on the heels of Austin Samuels. If he hasn't performed in training, he should have been sent back. Maybe he has. If we've merely kept him to go through the motions at Apperley Bridge, with no intention of picking him, I doubt Middlesbrough will want to loan us any more young prospects.

He has had some game time for Middlesbrough under 23s.

I the pre match interview the other day the explanation was that Novak was injured and they had to get cover in quickly

Add Middlesbrough to Leeds and Wolves on the list of clubs that probably won't loan us players again then. An ill thought out panic move. Again.

Look, our loans this season have been shocking. I am convinced it’s an area the club is looking to improve upon.

This doesn’t mean signing a player from
Leeds because it’s down the road. That’s lazy!

That reminds me, whatever happened to Hossanah? I remember reading something back in Jan which suggested he'd been recalled to Leeds and that we wouldn't be seeing him again..... all seems very strange.

Like they the gave us Stevens as punishment.

I’ve no problem with forming a relationship with Leeds but Leeds are a closed shop. If they are loaning a player out it’s because they don’t rate them.

Look at Cheltenham to see how you get the loan market right.

It’s poor no excuse really if he was just a bench player then fair enough, but the fact he couldn’t even get to the bench proves everyone’s time was wasted.

I remember when we used to get loans to improve us not sit in the reserves; Pickford, Reach, Evans, Burke, Cullen and even Kyle Reid when he came back from Preston.

Another area the club has massively regressed in. We loaned all them players above within a 2 year period of each other, scary the difference in quality and another way it shows the club has massively declined.

Not forgetting Andrew Davies to start with a few years before, arguably kept us up then helped us get up the year after.

Nobody in the history of time itself has ever been naughty enough to deserve that as a punishment.

Leeds will, on the back of taking Staunton off us on the cheap.

My guess is that L**do were passed off with Stuart for bringing him back too soon. Don't think we were trusted after that

There's some great names there but we did loan in some crap in the same period. The names you mention came from PP's contacts/reputation in the game I believe. They also tended to come from Prem teams with a strong historic youth team when we were in L1. The same players tended to have another loan the following season in the Championship. We've crapped out by falling this far down so we're left with weaklings from the U23 squads.

Aye you won’t get every signing right, but our ratio atm is particularly bad. Our best is one many thought what’s the point in that loan and he only came in to cover Novak’s injury Cook, felt more luck than anything that Mansfield were desperate to ship off high earners and Novak got injured.

Even some of our less fancied loanees under Parky have gone on to have decent careers tbf; Charlie Taylor at Burnley, Mason Bennett at Derby and Craig Forsyth, Oliver Burke, Kyle Bennett at Donny and Portsmouth. Even Matt Penney broke into the Sheffield Wednesday team who we had in McCalls second spell. I’ve probably missed a few as well tbf.

So some who didn’t contribute much clearly had talent , and the rest were mostly just to cover injuries on short term loans.
