I liked big Jack nowhere near the talent of Bobby but an honest pro who did the job as expected back in the day, not forgetting his "Little Black Book"

top player, hard man, saw him play a few times

What a defender, what a man. Saw him play at the backend of his career and was lucky enough to meet him at his book signing at Waterstones in Bradford (when it was on Market Street). I asked him about what he was up to and if he would go back into club management, He spoke to me for what seemed like ages and I was conscious of the queue behind us but they all seemed to be enjoying listening to him.
For a long time things weren't good between himself and Bobby but if you get chance watch and listen to his tribute to his brother when presenting him with the Sport's Personality Lifetime Achievement Award.
A tough, hard defender but what a lovely man. RIP Big Jack -

England and leeds didn't tend to leak goals with him in defence.
Managed an Ireland team worth watching.

"Jack also had an eye on his business sideline - the cloth trade. In his early twenties, he'd worked in a suit factory in Bradford and later on, he'd sell cloth to fellow players and have suits made up for them. "In fact when we went to Mexico in 1970 I provided the cloth for the England suits we had made. It was a very light-coloured grey suit.""
From an interview with most of the '66 team in the Guardian in 2006.
