Looking at the discussion in the transfer thread and whether we should see if Tyreik Wright was available, got me thinking about players who have more than one spell at Valley Parade and whether a return had been successful.
    So a few names:
    • Ian Ormondroyd. 1985-89 & 1995-96. Largely a success on his return, if in the autumn of his career.
    • Stuart McCall. 1982-88 & 1998-02. As a player an all time great, if not THE all time great.
    • Bobby Campbell. 1979-83 & 1983-86. Another great player for the club, and snake charmer at the Belle vue!
    • Noel Blake. 1992 & 1992-93. Came on a loan. Fairly underwhelming on his one season with us.
    • Ian Bowling. 1993 & 1993-95. Another loan, offered a contract. Squad player at best?
    • Alan Coombe. 2002 & 2003-4. Loan then permanent. Sound if unspectacular keeper.
    • Jamie Devitt. 2011-12 & 2019-20. Returned. Did nowt.
    • Matty Dolan. 2014 & 2014-5. Loan-Signed-loaned out again. Not spectacular.
    • Rhys Evans. 2007 & 2008-2009. Decent enough keeper.
    • Andy Halliday. 2014 & 2014-15. Loan/return. Promise, but too many mediocre games. Great goal against Chelsea!
    • Darren Morgan. 1988-89 & 1991-92. I can’t remember him (says a lot).
    • George Millar. 2018-19 & 2019. Reverse way. Signed/Left/Returned on loan. Not for me!
    • Dylan Mottley-Henry. Three spells with the club, now getting a living at South Shields.
    • AndyTod. 2001 & 2001-03. Not ‘fleet of foot’. Big! Now a Police Man.
    • Mark Stallard 1996 & 1996-97. Interestingly loaned out at the end of his spell with us. Big goal at Wembley
So looking at the above list (which perhaps could be added to?), then apart from the top three, the others have done very little.
I tend to agree with @Sergio Pinto III@Sergio Pinto III that the desire to see players returning, isn’t necessarily a good thing.
There are lots of players out there, and retuning to the same players seems to be fraught with problems. Look at Dion Pereira, hardly set the world on light since his return.

Just knocked off the list quickly. Same with Duke and Gilliead. As I said I am sure there may well be others.
My point is that a lot of returning players, do not work out, or are mediocre at best.

This season we also have Jamie Walker and Andy Cook in their second spells -- after previous loans. Two successes.

No one's yet been back for a fourth time, at least as a player only...

For 3 spells as a player, I have:

    B. Clarke, G. Handley, N. Law, D. Mottley-Henry, A. Rosenthal, L. Sinnott

As for 2 spells, I come up with 45* players. A few recent and a pair of not-so-recent notables not yet mentioned:

    A. Davies, Jock Ewart, A. Gilliver, T. McMahon, E. Nixon, P. O'Connor, S. Warnock

    RCB

    * -- I might have missed some loans that became permanent, especially if both moves came in the same season

ETA: make that 46* players -- Youds now included

Miller and Dolan are probably good comparisons as not only did they sign young in the first place, they returned shortly afterwards.

Tyreik wouldn't be like the guys we had young but then returned many years later.

I might be misremembering, but I think Ty did better in his spell than either Dolan or Miller, who are both bang average.

I don't mind either way with Tyreik. I'd be happy if he returned, but I'd also be happy to look elsewhere - which seems to be much more likely.

Cheers! Youds is one of those loans that became permanent in the same season that I missed!

A lot of the players I listed in the original post, had either come to us when they were young or with few appearances at their existing/previous club.
Many of the names subsequently identified, were established players.
    A slight difference.
Personally I am quite happy to see fresh talent, rather than recycling.
