Yes both C&B, BT and the old club forum have been very enjoyable most of the time, not sure rating are required, but each to their own.

Problem was though that it was all or nothing, and some of the ratings were useful whilst others were easily abused. Here I think the 'like' works as like / thank you / funny / informative, and as Simon puts it, it helps when you actually have to produce a justification for your disagreement / dislike etc. rather than just clicking a button.

Only you don’t. Not every comment I read on here is a valid justification- far from it. How many times do posters quote Fordy just to tell him he’s talking a load of shite for example. How many silly, sarcastic remarks do you see from posters who simply disagree with someone else’s opinion? Ironically, In these instances a rating would actually be far less confrontational than a back and forth between two posters where little of note is being discussed. The simple fact is if you don’t want to justify yourself with a considered well thought of response then you don’t have to- ratings or not.

They're not the same though are they? Not even close. It's easy to like the reasoning of a post and still disagree with it and similarly you can also dislike a post but agree with it.

I have to say, there feels to be less negativity and fewer niggly little arguments here.

I'd say emoji ratings were definitely guilty of starting bickering at times on BT.

Don't miss them one bit, and don't feel the need to issue them.

If a cartoon emoji is getting a grown adult upset enough to start bickering then it isn't the cartoon emoji that's the problem.

You saw it on the old site NM, it happened. You could say that if a grown adult has to use a poop emoji to get across his opinion then they are the problem.

I very much anyone 'needed' to use one, it was just easier than trying to discuss a point with some posters as they seem continually oblivious to conflicting views as if only their opinion matters to the extent that they genuinely struggle to understand why their point of view is being questioned.

It's also pretty much the reason why cougar got himself banned. If he'd have learnt to use the emojis correctly he might have had more self control.

They are the same in this situation because there is no context. If you were to reply with a thumbs down emoji but then underneath state you disagree with the point but you appreciate the post then sure that gives the emoji context but without that context it all ends up falling into one negative general grouping

You are missing the point though. It's not the emoji itself that gets people annoyed, its what the use of that emoji represents. That being a lack of respect being shown to the poster. Most people don't need everything the think to be agreed by everyone but they want people to at least have the decency not to just dismiss it with a throwaway emoji that can end up coming across as brigading if lots of people do it

We're not allowed ratings. They upset some of the grown men on here.

It was legendary. The tears caused by a cartoon emoji of poo could have turned the Sahara into lake Windemere!
