Easily done tbf! Could be deployed as the sweeper style CB, if Stubbs and Platt do the heavy work?

Would certainly need 5 CBs at least in the squad if we are going for 3 starting CBs. Wouldn't be surprised to see a youth defender see on loan towards the end if we want a 6th for cover or injuries if Stubbs knee flares up again. Have to go back to 2020 for the last full pre season for the lad without a knock or existing injury.

 

It’s indicative of why we find ourselves in league 2 when the bulk of our fanbase lack ambition.
The longer we go on believing that we have no chance of signing the calibre of players like Billy Sharp then we’ll be in league 2 for a long while yet.
He’s been released by Sheffield Utd, he barely got a game last season so his likely destination unless he retires is league 1 or league 2.
I’d assume he’d want to stay North around Yorkshire so who are we competing with?
Barnsley? No chance he’d go there
Doncaster ? Maybe
Mansfield?
Grimsby?

Cracking signing for them. He should score a Shedful at this level. If they keep Langstaff too they should be a right force despite probably losing Rodrigues

 

Some big players in the division this season. County, Wrexham, Stockport, Gillingham, MK Dons, ourselves. Thankfully the other clubs that came down i think will stay down. Gonna be some very interesting weeks ahead with the transfer market.

 

As you say if he does want to stay in the game playing regular football I'd suggest money is not his main motivation, I would think Doncaster would appeal to him as he has played there twice before, I cant see playing in front of 16,000+ would be a problem in fact I think it could be a plus Sharp was never one for shying away.

 

Agreed. But I didnt have Carlisle, Stevenage or Northampton going up last term! I suspected Orient, very good business last summer.

 

That isnt true. He started Wright and Derbyshire in Forward supporting roles with Cook/Oliver on occasion last season.

Harrogate, Salford, Stevenage, Tranmere etc. From.memory we did ok in those games. Losing Wright and then Derbyshire to injury scuppered that.

Why do United fans think he'll come to us? Is there anything rational in it or just a load of folk who have jumped on the bandwagon?

 

It seems the sheff united fans that say he's coming to us are going by one of those rumour accounts inwhich we City fans saw last week and some on here called it out for getting most rumours wrong.

 

I'm assuming Fordy has already told everyone he's $hite though. (Sorry, I haven't read back through all the posts)

 

I thought Stevenage would do well with the Evans factor but the others were off my radar. Doncaster seem to have gone out with a busy transfer strategy, depends if they all gel.

 

We are bigger than Luton, but doubt any player would sign for us over them.

Anyhow we aren't bigger than Huddersfield or Hull

 

A few seem to think working with Hughes, 18k crowd and a chance of goals/promotion will be right up his street.
