There's a documentary on Radio 4 now if anyone wants to listen, interviews with people there on the day.

Can we stop using the term ‘The 56’ please? It’s not a brand, we don’t need hoodies, applause at 56 minutes and so on, there’s not the injustice of Hillsborough, it was a f@cking awful day and for the last 33 years we’ve managed to remember those of us who were unlucky enough not to get out with little more than the sights, sounds and smells ingrained in our memory with quiet dignity.

I just happened to be listening to Radio 4 when it came on, I had no idea it was happening or that the BBC had commissioned it. It featured 3 Bradford born actors, Duncan Preston, Melanie Kilburn & Vincent Franklin reflecting on the experiences of some of the supporters who were there.

I must admit to having a tear in my eye when one of the women's accounts made me realise she must have been sitting pretty well right next to me, she got badly burnt and I didn't.

My brother-in law was a police sergeant on to duty at Valley Parade on that fateful day. He was sent into the back of the stand & what he experienced lives with him to this day. He left the police force not long after badly traumatised. Some of the things he saw were so dreadful one cannot reveal them here. We do not need some media event to bring back these appalling memories.

Problem with threads on this subject, they always end up being an 'i was there you don't understand'. The OP was just mentioning a radio show was on about the fateful day, if people find it upsetting don't listen. Lets not have a go at the poster though.

It was written by two students one of whom is from Bradford.

It has done Edinburgh and also toured the UK including a week or so at a The Studio at The Alhambra

Yes me and the grandson went to see it at The Studio, I'd asked for other fans opinions who'd seen it previously for their opinions before I made my mind up to watch it,
The play was based on 3 fans ? recollection of that day, it wasn't as emotional as I thought it might have been sprinkled through out with Bradford humour, and of course the odd expletive which caught some in the audience by surprise which in itself was quite funny.

I know exactly what your brother in law witnessed, I also saw what he saw and i've always said the tv coverage didn't show (thankfully)other horrors of that day.
I've always been uncomfortable with the label "56" as hundreds of other fans were badly burnt and thousands of others were traumatised that day.
However some people do want to respect the 56 in their own way and clearly do so if that gives them some comfort then that's fine by me.
It's about everyone who suffered that day and the weeks, months and years after.
We all have a story to tell about that day but given the choice i'd rather not say a thing about was I witnessed that day.

The play wasn't based on 3 fans, it was based on many fans comments but 3 actors read them.
