I agree. Some of the facilities really are fantastic but most are based on the numbers game. The more youngsters going through the academy, the more likely will a future star be unearthed. And the EPPP provides those clubs with a Cat 1 academy a big advantage in luring the best of the best to their set up.

There are now almost enough youngsters coming through the Cat 1 academies that are needed in the future to provide players in the rest of the pro pyramid! When the other academies are factored in; when the numbers of foreign players are included and when the success of others coming through the non-league set ups are added in, it shows that not every product of an academy can be a success and probably why a few clubs are already questioning whether an academy is right for them.

so you’d rather have an academy that wasn’t getting any accolades? as i’ve said previously, it’ll take time for it to produce a good number of quality players or do you expect 15 or 16 year olds to be first team ready?

Accolades mean little to me, as i said real results are after academies, we have the captain of the Man Utd under 23s and he cnat get on the bench. Lets wait until we see real results eg. Players going to represent the first team or having careers at similar or better clubs than ourselves after being in our academy.

Oh and check my posts, where have i said i expect 15 and 16 year olds to be first team ready?

Simple answer to rhat one. When they are good enough they are ready regardless of age.

Last season they did what our fellow forum fans (the old one) said we should have done, gambled on wages to get in the play-offs and it failed

I mentioned when we both met for that irrelevant dead rubber last match of the season (remember the match that lots of us thought, early season, would be a promotion decider ) that they were arguably in a worse state than us as indicated by the relative value of the squads - which i looked on one of the statto sites

Whilst they probably make as much money as us, due to I assume higher season ticket prices - they won't on merchandise or be as attractive as we are to players considering coming down a step. I couldn't see Caddis at anywhere, else, in L1 except say the Top 6 for instance - six clubs who all have something going for them historically

So I think they're in a bit of a long term dilemma - they were wanting a new stadium but I believe their Chairman got nowhere with the local authorities and so it's probably not as a happier club as it used to be
