Prediction Leagues

I agree.

I fail to understand why the Prediction threads particularly those relating to the World Cup aren't in the existing Prediction League sub-forum. Other genuine City related thread are being squeezed out of the City Talk forum by threads which are not even City related.

I raised it last night in the Mod Forum, after @Storck and @Gardscoigne posted.

Again like everyone else on here I think it should be moved to a dedicated section (perhaps near the General Football thread).

Although I can do some of the ‘techy stuff’ this transfer in all honesty beyond me and I don’t want to accidentally delete the posts that have been lodged so far.

 

The Regular ones are going nowhere, they have actually provided way better SEO benefits to the forum than in own forum especially as they have to be archived each year when in their own forum to prevent confusion (whereas here they effectively auto-archive). And we have has fewer people saying they forgot to enter for a game when it's in the same forum as things like the match thread, so its easier for users as well.

As for the World Cup ones are in here temporarily, they will go into the General Football forum but it's being used as a test for the automation system for the regular prediction league and it's less problematic developing and testing the system when it's in one location

As for people saying they squeeze actual city threads, hardly. Without the prediction league threads the last thread on the first page is the Dion Pereira one that hasn't had a post since 9th November. Even the existing first page there hasn't been a post in that last thread since the 16th. If all the first page was Prediction League threads and all new threads were pushed quickly off the front page then maybe that would be the case but its not. Actually, if anything the whole forum is being negatively impacted by the front pages on all the forums having posts that haven't been posted on in a few days. Ideally, we should be merging so many of them into each other so at any time any front post thread has fresh content in it in the last 24 hours

 

I love the thought of a ‘Huddersfield Town predication league’. Is that where you predict where they will go on vacation?

Where did I say that? I said the regular ones are going to stay here as they are better at driving traffic and are better for the users. Driving traffic is important for forums as traffic means more users which translates to more posts and hopefully some differing opinions. Without driving traffic the forums become a circle-jerk like The Cows Arse.

And what gives you the right to decide what the majority want? You might not want to see the regular prediction league threads but many do, they get more views than most of the threads you have ever started so if they don't belong here then basically all your content should also be moved elsewhere as well. Forums aren't supposed to be your own personal echo chamber.

And I said the World Cup ones are in this forum on a temp basis. Karl doesn't pay me for the Prediction League, it's done in my spare time, spare time that's been getting squeezed over the last year and I need to automate it more, but that also takes time to save time later on. It's easier and less time-consuming developing, testing and enhancing a single system than having two different ones running parallel. The World Cup is allowing me to do get the system for the regular one finally finished and tested. When it reaches a certain point I will be able to move to start having the system post and look up threads for the world cup one in the General Football forum instead but again all this is being done in my own time and I'm not about to start giving it an extra time or even prioritising it over paid work to appease a few. If it really bothers you then perhaps you could pay me for that extra time but otherwise, you need to just be patient for a few days

 

Perhaps you should actually read what I have written. The world cup ones are here on a temp basis simply because it's easier to develop the system for both the world cup one and the regular one when everything is in the same place. They will be moved to the General Football forum as soon as the system is fully ready (And when I can then add some logic so it knows if its a City match or a world cup match and can adjust accordingly), I need a few completed world cup matches to be able to do that
