    A friend of mine is aiming to arrange a sportsman’s dinner to raise money for the Sue Ryder Hospice with the following details;

The likely venues would be either Bradford & Bingley Rugby Club or The Raggalds, Queensbury in either February or March.

There would be a 2 course meal
Dean Windass would be the Guest Speaker
There would also be a comedian (it is still to be decided which comedian)

An auction, a raffle and fundraising games would also take place

The entrance fee would be £35 per person.

Would people on here be interested in this potential event? I have not been like an event like this before, but for people who have been to similar events, do you think that there would be good demand for this? Obviously Dean Windass is well regarded by Bradford City fans, so I would guess with my limited knowledge of these types of events that there would be good demand.

Rocket obviously remembers as does Bronco.

I live in Queensbury. There was an armed robbery at The Raggalds about 19 years ago and remember all the police cars speeding past my house at the time. Turned out (eventually) that one of the culprits was a couple of years above me at school...he'd been on the run but was spotted in Spain...

I also love in Queensbury and remember it but Raggalds now is a FAR, FAR different place than it was then. It's actually a very decent place to have a Sunday dinner or a function in. Bit pricey for the beer though.

Agree entirely. It was 19 years or so ago but perhaps some people remember it and are not local to it like ourselves....

Maybe I have been a bit harsh regarding The Raggalds ? It’s for a good charity maybe Valley Parade a good venue.

Probably because he does the after dinner circuit so would be easy to book.

Dean Windass usually works with Pete Emmett who is a MC/Comedian. He's local and very good and he manages to keep together Dean's stories as he re-fuels during the evening.

Emmett works at Everton FC and does a lot of Rugby work so he knows how to play to a sporting crowd.

I saw Deano recently at Scholes Cricket Club, whilst he's no Oscar Wilde he does give some honest and fascinating insights. He's definitely worth going to see if you're a City fan. His story about Robbie Savage is a belter.

Venue wise - The Raggalds is now a good venue and has a function room.

If you could get Headley's Golf Club, between Queensbury/Heaton, I would say that is better because it's recently been done out.

Another shout would be Napoleans. They'd welcome the business, do great food, it's central, are City fans and they'll do a great deal with a beer voucher and casino chip thrown in.

Where ever you choose, half will be happy, half upset, so just pick best on price/quality of the venue. For £35 people will expect a nice 3-course meal. Also get raffle donations. At the end of the night, with the guests are drunk you can make a lot of money selling any old sporting memorabilia
