We had the third best (or certainly Top 5) xG in the league when we sacked Adams. All that does is reward teams that don't create many chances. Your xG will be poor if you a team that shoots on site.

Are you saying we get him back?

How about we simply use L2 shot stats?

Or are we going to find some stats that supports this mid-table team narrative and make damn sure they are the only ones considered.

 

P.S. Incidentally our shots on target average is also in the Top 7 or it was prior to Stockport.

My point is that L2 teams don't "consistently produce it". Apparently, Stevenage were terrible against Gillingham, before they got any of their new players.

Yes - it seems we are hanging plenty on him. i hope banks gets a good run too.

 

I think he's been fine, particularly when he came on against Salford. He's not going to be firing on all cylinders as yet.

Looking at the squad below and the like for like ins and outs I am assuming that the mystery man is a Striker. In terms of numbers we are one down from Harratt leaving.

That said I think we have too many options. Once again it looks like quantity over quality. We have 30 pros signed on - even if Cousin-Dawson and Wood go back out on loan we have 28 men. We have done this scattergun approach time and time again and the results were a failure. We never seem to learn....

Can you define quality though?

There's enough league two quality defenders.

The midfielders and forwards (Cook aside) haven't created enough chances or scored enough goals which is my definition of quality, hence the question.

 

Walker and Smallwood have proved their quality at a higher level and Oliver has scored regularly in the league above and Clayton has had a good career as well

 

This month the players have to deliver the goods if we want a fighting chance of being in the playoffs. We cannot rely on refs or the opposition teams having a poor run. We have to do it! Plus I have seen enough playoff to know one thing; ho into them out of form and you are dead in the water.

 

Smallwood proved himself when he was mid/late 20s. He was terrible for Hull last season and he is fast approaching 32 now. He has been appalling this year.

Cast your mind back to McLean, Vaughan, Doyle - all 'quality' expensive failures.

 

He got released fella. And the general consensus by their fans was 'his legs have gone'.

He was held in high regard 20/21 season as he captained them to promotion.

 

Ok - in the sense of poor tactics or formation?

Are we going to see a new formation coming in now with the recruitment in Jan?

 

The tactics are the same as when Hughes came in, just done poorer. We don’t created load’s because the players aren’t very creative, we are relying on Walker to create and he’s been out injured most of the season. Non of the other players in the squad have a history or reputation of creating chances.

 

I thought he turned down Hull's offer of a 12 month contact extension in favour of the longer contract we offered?

 

Aye, I work with 4 Hull fans who usually argue like cats and dogs about goings on at Hull but all of them would have kept him. Not saying that he's brilliant for us mind.

 

Tozer has a unique talent with that throw, an ideal weapon for league 2 next season. Just nobody out there with a throw like it.
