That's a good thing. The paper poppies are so wasteful. If someone is going to buy a poppy they will still donate if the donation buckets are there so we don't really need the whole, buy a poppy, throw it in a drawer, rather than reuse it get pressured into buying another which later goes into the drawer

Thats not the point, disabled veterans are employed to make them so they should be worn as a mark of respect

Whatever happened to buying a poppy and wearing it with respect and quiet dignity? Instead of all this pissing and moaning about who’s not wearing one, and who’s not selling them. Gets right on my tits.

I'm not saying don't wear them, just after November they either go in the bin or a drawer and then next year you buy a new one. It's a real waste especially as part of it is plastic and plastic waste is a real issue right now.

The pins are more are better because even if you do buy another the next year they come in more styles which makes them more collectable. And if you like the initial one you buy you can just keep wearing it and give the money.

And veterans can still be employed to make and sell pins as well

The plastic from poppies is an infinitesimal problem, come on!!:brig:

They were selling them in Asda Shipley tonight, but they didn't have any white ones so they lost out.......

Pins are collectable, not to mention convenient.
I bought 10 of the WHU version this year for folks. I doubt I would have given £30 for 10 paper poppies

Why buy a white one Abbo? What is the difference to wearing a red one?
    (Genuine question)

If it was the Royal Legion then that would explain the lack of white ones

There are three elements to the meaning of white poppies: they represent remembrance for all victims of war, a commitment to peace and a challenge to attempts to glamorise or celebrate war.

Got to say I'm not a fan of either the white ones, or even rarer, the purple ones.

The poppies have been a symbol or remembrance for years.... I don't know why people feel the need to change that to different meanings.

I'm not saying that people that have died in other wars don't deserve to be remembered... far from it. But I do not understand the need to change the tradition, if you feel that strongly about it, use another date to wear white poppies as remembrance.

To me it's like eating waffles on pancake day just to be different.

I’d definitely prefer waffles over pancakes.

Poor James McClean, how many years does he keep having to give the same valid reason for not wearing one?

Every year, It is a personal decision of course but still wrong IMO and a snub to the 50,000 Irish soldiers killed in war

Irish soldiers were royally betrayed by the British on their return home. Britain has behaved very badly towards Ireland for centuries, it's astonishing that McCleans actions should cause such surprise.

By holding the few in recent times who were denounced by both nations as a tragic mistake as a reason for not respecting the 150,000 who joined up and fought and the 50,000 Irish soldiers who although wearing a British uniform were fighting and gave their lives for the freedom of Europe from tyranny and gave him the freedoms he enjoys is pathetic and shows a distinct whiff of a deep seated prejudice and hate of the country he takes a good living from
