In all my years in football rarely have I seen a squad less suited to playing 3 at the back, We will always give goals away as we are both slow and not disciplined enough to play 3 at the back,
If we are to stay up we need a standard 4 at the back shape with the aim of keeping clean sheets and build on that, Adams has left us with a squad that is unbalanced and lacking quality but we must make the best use of what we have and playing 3 at the back does not do that and is a gift to any teams with a modicum of pace up front

I can see why he went with it, try and stop our midfield being over run and we did see better performances from Watt and Gilliead. But whether we play a four or a three, those two centre backs in Songo'o and O'connor simply aren't good enough to build a team around. Which is essentially the first thing you do.

I wonder if there are any experienced free agent CBs knocking about, trouble could be fitness but even if we got someone now they could be up to speed for the last 5/6 games which could still be vital.

Many of our current squad seem to have an issue with fitness, nevermind an out of contract player.

Fil Morais was astonished the other night when he said he couldn't believe the shape Cook and others had been allowed to get in since the turn of the new year.

Fitness and conditioning is an area that Hughes and Hodges have to tackle with an appointment in the coming weeks.

In that case he won’t have much catching up to do as they are already unfit, get someone asap. Caddis made a big difference when he came in. Any decent experienced CB has got to be better than Songo’o.

Yeah I wasn't knocking your suggestion mate. It wouldn't surprise me to see a couple of out of contract players coming in. As you say, it wouldn't take them long to catch up with the current levels of fitness

    I wouldn't trust Songo in a back 7 let alone a back 3.

He's got the tactical awareness of a tin of spaghetti hoops.

Usually I’d say out of our league, but chance to play with Hughes at his hometown club. Even for just 10 games, what’s he got to lose? Easier to find a new club having recently played than a free agent for the whole season.

Because he was being asked to play a role he hasn't played. Or. Did you forget Songo'o smashing the ball anywhere or O'connor doing the same? Foulds was poor but so were the two centre backs.

Formations are only as good as the players ability for those positions. When your asking players like some of those we currently have to play some of these formations they look like we did yesterday, over run in-midfield, strikers dropping deep, strikers to far apart, space in behind the full backs etc. 442 or 433 for me Id be happy with 4141 to protect the back four for the rest of the season because for all his effort POC just hasn’t got the physical power we need he was bullied yesterday Songo saved us a few times but he’s not the player I thought we were getting he’s slow.

This is bang on and should be shown to anyone going on about players just giving 100%. Giving 100% is meaningless unless your players actually fit a formation. You just end running round like headless chickens, which unfortunately was what Adams had turned us into.

Foulds had a poor game yesterday (not sure he is fit) but Songo’o at centre half is an absolute liability, I have never see a supposed central midfielder fill in at the back and be so bad in the ball!!! Paudie is too hot headed would be more than happy to see a brand new back 4 / 5 next season not sure any of them are good enough.

This is why a back three is ridiculous.

Foulds shouldn't be there, Songo'o shouldn't be there, only Paudie is actually a centre back.

If you've only got one centre back, maybe try and make do with two instead of three?

As MH said in his post match comments he went with the way we had been playing
He has a week now to put his own plans down and see how things progress
    Training facility maybe a problem

Hughes did mention the soggy pitches at Apperley Bridge not being ideal. I think Fordy tipped him off
