That's spot on. We were led to believe we would have Watt and Cooke as a central two with Cooke the further forward. But with Clarke in the team Cooke got pushed out to the left or him and Clarke got in each other's way. A typical Stuart mishmash. The trouble is Stuart thinks he's being clever by doing this, hoping Clarke and Cooke will complement each other but all that happens is they cancel each other out and we get nowhere. We've seen it all before.

I fear if you're gonna see the best of Cooke it would be in the space Clarke occupies. Watt looks comfortable around the centre circle or dropping deep but Cooke doesn't.

He had a poor game today but I agree with your comments, he seemed caught in no man's land at numerous points with Clarke taking the space he was looking for. I like what McCall was trying to do today but not sure the pieces fit the jigsaw.

Whilst Clarke had a good 45 minutes I am afraid as the second half went on, the less effect he had. I think once the 60 minutes is up then it will be time to pull him off as I don't think he has the legs for a full 90 unless with more training and games his stamina improves.

Really, we can only have one of them in the team and the other needs replacing with a more defensive, tackling midfielder.

Yeah, thats a call i was looking at. Today with two faily attack minded wing backs, Clarke and a front two meaqns if Cooke does go forward we're left with the centre backs and Watt to cover. A better team than Colchester i would expect to capitalise.

If Levi Sutton comes in I think It likely that Watt will keep his place and Clarke or Cooke will make way. Sutton could be that more defensive, tackling midfielder.

Not all his fault, colchester did a job on him and Watt to be fair. But not up to his standards today.

Odd one with cooke, once again seems a victim of circumstance. Seems he was promised a forward/free but bolton and today he seemed to be the base of a midfield which isnt his game

First half yes but seemed to fade as the game went on. Staunton had a good game overall.

Basically Stuart has done his mate Clarke a favour by giving him a contact and now he's occupying the space that Cooke would thrive in and be infinitely more productive in.

Classic Stuart. Give his mate a lifeline and hope it all works out. It won't unfortunately.

The sooner we sign a proper defensive midfielder to tackle in the midfield and get Cooke in the space Clarke is occupying the better.

I thought Clarke played alright but its questionable if we play two out and out strikers with Clarke behind how far forward can Cooke get without leaving us open to the counter?

The problem with is he's not very good at tracking back when loses posession, Colchester possessed one thing we lack badly and thats pace in various psoitions.

Clarke and Cooke both have positives in their armoury but pace ain't one of them. Both can look ponderous at times.

Again, this is so obvious and numerous posters have said as much all summer. It's galling that our management team think differently. Are we all wrong?

I thought Cooke was very poor.

Staunton the stand out. Could have ourselves a player there.

Really? Well judging by how the supposed division favourites look so far in Bolton you may be right. One major bonus from last season already is we don't like concededing 5 or 6 in most games, th formation looks ok, just need to tweak the personel.

He certainly does think that way. It may be bravado but i do think his "id rather win 4-3 than 1-0" is a flawed concept

Looking back at the stats we always seem to struggle against Colchester . Including yesterday’s match we have only scored 2 goals against them in the last 6 meetings and 3 of the matches ended 0-0. So history pointed to a low scoring match. ( the one time this did not apply was in the 60s when they beat us 9-1 )
With this is mind and bearing in mind they were in the play offs last season maybe not the worst of results. However our deficiencies upfront are there for all to see.
